      Is Darunia Really a Goron?
Posted by: Darunia - 22nd February 2005, 9:59 PM - Forum: Den of the Philociraptor - Replies (90)

Is his Most Excellently Exhalted, Austere and August Majesty, Marcus Darunius VII, Sovereign Lord of Goron City, Great Britain, Hyrule, and Tendo City actually a real-life, breathing Goron? Or, alternately, is he something else, like a shoe or something? Discuss.

    (btw, yes I am.)

      Boss strategies...
    Posted by: Dark Jaguar - 22nd February 2005, 3:09 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (25)

This is the thread to discuss boss strategies we've all developed for various games. Just bring up a boss and if someone else has their own strat post that too. We'll vote every now and then on what seems most effective.

Okay, I'll start. In Zelda 2, I have found the best method for taking on Shadow Link at the end of the game to be jumping towards him, slowing down my forward momentum just a bit so he backs up a bit too much, then if he lowers his shield just before I land I slice him in the head. Back off a bit, then repeat over and over until the old man gives you the triforce of courage. I think it's pretty effective when I can pull it off right. I seem to require a certain level of "mojo" to do this though. This method actually works very well on all the iron knuckles in the game.

In Zelda 1, the Dark Nuts are sorta tough for me. It's odd, they just keep MOVING and never stop, so sometimes it's easy to beat one and sometimes they can really get you cornered. My strategy, in the rooms set up for it, is usually to stand behind some structure and wait for them to walk towards the space I'm aiming at. I then attack before they can turn to face me. I then repeat this. The problems with this is the rooms that have nothing but 4 walls, where I simply have to duck and move, and when dark nuts are coming from both sides of the object I'm hiding behind.

In Mario Bros., my strat to run past hammer tossing Bowser has involved waitng for the only moment I can make a sure fire jump, which is usually when he fires a fire bolt at the same time he throws the hammer barrage JUST as he's starting to jump again. I can then jump over the fire, through the hammer gap, and dash under the then jumping Bowser to get by him. The major problem is that I do need to wait for this perfect timing of his attacks to occur. Otherwise, if by chance I'm there with low time, I sorta randomly dive through it and get lucky.

The Official "EVERYONE COME BACK AND DISCUSS REAL ISSUES AND STUFF!!" Thread!!
    Posted by: Great Rumbler - 22nd February 2005, 2:18 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (11)

Alright, here's the deal: I'll make better posts that consist of more than just a single emoticon or "..." if you guys start coming back the forums and POSTING. Don't just drop in once a week or once a month to post a couple of times, and then complain that no one posts anything good. Okay? If you come back and start posting more and my posting habits DO NOT get better THEN BY ALL MEANS COMPLAIN ALL YOU WANT!! Because at that point I'll be deserving of it. So, this is what it has come down to.

EVERYONE COME BACK AND POST A BUNCH OF GOOD POSTS!!

Release date set for Killer 7
    Posted by: Great Rumbler - 22nd February 2005, 7:41 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (11)

    Well it's about time!

Quote:According to Capcom's website, the long awaited action title "Killer 7" is to get a near-simultaneous worldwide launch this summer.

Capcom are currently listing the game for release in the US on June 7th, which would normally indicate a European release sometime in Spetember. However, according to the site, the game is set to be released on the 24th of June in the European market -a scant few weeks after the US release.

Meanwhile, the Japanese release date is an unspecified "Summer" date. One would infer from this that Japanese gamers may see a slightly earlier release than the US version, or perhaps a release somewhere between the US and European versions.

If the game is to be released worldwide in such a short space of time, it would make Capcom one of the only publishers to recognise that the European market often laments the fact that we seem to get most titles months after their launch in the US and Japan. Nintendo recently remedied this by releasing the Minish Cap over here before anywhere else, but there is a great deal of ground to be made up if Europeans are ever to feel the equal of other markets.

I'm still not sure quite what to make of this game. It looks like some kind of FPS on steriods...or acid. Of course that may make it the coolest game ever created, but we'll just have to wait until June to find out for sure.

      Chill pill time.

Wow. It's amazing what happens when you're unable to poke in daily.

I've spent time (mostly in Pay Attention) trying to figure out what's going on. And I think I have a pretty good grip on the situation. Now I have a few things to say to everyone, and while I don't like to single individuals out, there's really no avoiding it. Thus, I'll start with the crux, that being your friend and mine, OB1.

It's said here that OB1 argues with everyone, and can be such an itch under the skin that one can't help but try to scratch it. Personally, I disagree. I've gotten into some heated debates over Star Wars with him, and a few other things of little importance, but I never get into long, novelistic flamewars with him. Why? Partially because I know him, and I know belaboring the point can be a fruitless task with him. I know that his endurance is beyond legendary, even if his patience is anything but. However, even when he and I disagree, we never get into thermonuclear wars. Why? Because I do know when to stop. Yes, OB1 does seem to always have the last word, but so do those of you who toe it out with him (read: ABF). The two of you go on for ages, and I have always said it's because you both love the thrill of the fight, or whatever you call it. However, some of you are as guilty of not knowing when to stop as he is. ABF, I'm looking at you now. (Funny enough, if there's anyone that I find irresistable to argue with, it's ABF... but even then, it does sometimes get to a point where there's no point in going on).

Aside from N_A, the first person I picked to admin here was OB1. It was a tough decision, considering that there were several other people who had been mods and admins, but I felt perhaps a fresh face was in order. It was a token of my trust, when I needed every bit I could get. Since then, I've appointed many mods and admins, and now, practially everyone has the power. I pay out my pocket to operate this place, and over the time I have it's cost me over a thousand bucks. That I allow so many of you total access to every part of Tendo City, to something that a terribly cheap man like me actually shells out money for every month, shows that I have implicit trust in each and every one of you. I give all of you this power because I know you would do no wrong. Until now, I have not yet seen an example where this trust is violated. Today though, I have seen several actions which could be termed as abuses of this power, and I don't like it. Much, if not all of it, is based from misunderstandings and good intentions, and therefore, I'm not going to punish anyone. I wouldn't like to, anyway. It's not my nature. But from now on, as should always have been the case, we need discretion. Tendo City is small, but it has a lot of space and a lot of versatility. I do not mind the junk, the crap threads. I do think there are limits, but rarely have I seen them threatened. Considering the small number of regulars we have compared to the large amount of space and bandwidth we possess, I do not have a problem with individuals having their own threads, or using server space for personal use. I would greatly prefer never to have to take that away. TC is a place largely lax on rules, and this is again because I trust most of you.

So, to those with mod powers, and admin powers, remember the responsibility that goes along with them. You should only ever use your powers to solve a problem, or to fix a violation. A small number of members using a single thread for their own whimsy is not something I think merits a move or delete. On the other hand, an admin should never threaten to delete accounts because of percieved personal insult. Sit back, take a breather, and think rationally. Once again, this is a matter of trust, and no one's lost any from me this time. I hate to call people into question, and the last thing I want is for anyone to leave. I'm not paying $18 a month for my own benefit (after all, there are several people here who are far more prolific posters than I), I'm doing this for you guys. If people start to leave, I have no reason to keep this going. I'd hate to see the place die. There may be a time when my life becomes too involved for me to operate TC. It's my hope that when that time comes, if it does, that there's someone to pick up the torch and keep things going.

It was four years ago last week that I took Tendo City for my own. I was nervous, taking over a forum full of people that nine months ago would have gladly ridden me out of town on rails. I took that charge because I cared about the place, and the people who posted there. But I knew little about running a real forum, and I felt like I had little authority, considering I was one of the most recent regular members, and I wasn't quite sure I had everyone's trust. I needed a lot of help, both on the people side, and on the technical side (how many times demon and N_A saved this place from doom I couldn't even begin to count). Today, we have a nice, stable software that I know very well, and I have a group of people that I know are mine. I am friends with almost all, and I have met, or have come close to meeting, several. One such person was the loudest voice among those who wanted me banned in the beginning. Since, that man has become my best friend in the world. I've stayed at his house hundreds of miles away, and will be returning soon, hopefully.

So, to close, I want everyone to cool their jets. Grow up a little. There's no shame in refusing provocation. This is a message board, after all. It's also a community, and that's more than the sum of it's parts if it's any good. I think ours is, and I'd like it to stay that way.

So let's all kiss and make friends. To quote the first words I ever saw EdenMaster type, over five years ago, "Everyone just needs to calm the fuck down." Of course, then he proceeded to start a massive flamewar against me that lasted for years, but who cares about details? :D

THE REASON WHY I DELETED POSTS IN MY DAMN THREAD
    Posted by: OB1 - 21st February 2005, 9:55 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (31)

The PURPOSE of mine and GR's sticky thread was to give each other quick and easy access to our images. We created a whole bunch of them and had so many different faces that we could have entire near-conversations just with them. Think of them as giant emoticons. It was that or putting them into the smilies list, and I don't think anyone would want that. And it was in RAMBLE because ramble is that much easier to access a hundred times per day than the Bo Jackson forum. You don't realize that until you post a hundred pictures a day like GR and I have been doing. The reason why I deleted all of the replies in that thread is because I wanted it to serve that ONE SINGLE purpose and not become a thread for conversation, which would make it load even longer. Perhaps I should have been more clear about that, but then again I didn't think there would be so many stupid assholes throwing such huge fits about something so stupid and trivial. Here's what I said:

Quote: And don't post here unless you're posting some important pictures!

That should have been clear enough! I deleted ALL of the replies (except for one or two that I felt needed to be there for a little while longer), INCLUDING MY OWN. Perhaps I should have moved them to another thread (which I later did), but it was nothing personal! So stop crying about it already!!

Holy SHIT do I hate this place sometimes.
