Perrin Kaplan drops some tiny details on Revolution the night of the Xbox 360 reveal.
By now, everyone knows just about everything there is to know about Xbox 360. Nintendo, on the other hand, has kept a fairly tight lid on the details of their next console, codenamed Revolution. All that has been known until now is that it will feature wireless connectivity, similar to the Nintendo DS.
Today, Perrin Kaplan (Nintendo's Vice President of Corporate Affairs) has divulged some info about Revolution to The New York Times. The article is mostly about Xbox 360, but Kaplan did give some interesting information on two facets of Revolution, including it's size, described as horizontal, and no taller than three stacked DVD cases. That's pretty small, but why use DVD cases as a frame of reference? The answer will make many Nintendo fans quite happy.
Kaplan: "Unlike GameCube, the new system will play DVD's", Ms. Kaplan said, "and will feature a wireless controller. It will play GameCube games as well as a new class of high-definition games, with new emphasis on online play".
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could give a shit about the ability to play DVD's, I have a DVD player, but alot of people will see that as a reason to buy! I'dont understand what an 'HD DVD' is other than that it holds more info than a standard DVD, so hell's bells bigger DVD's YESSSSSS! Confirmed wireless controllers too!!!!!!! I hope they're not suck like XBox360's! But the best part is, because Kaplan was describing what the system looks like, that means it's FINALIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's no reason other than politics NOT to show it at E3! *everyone* is saying the XBox360 is a failure, even XBOX FANS! So Nintendo better effing go nuts at the show and show us amazing stuff like FUCKING METROID IN 3-D with GLASSES and THINGS FROM THE FUTURE THAT MAKE BUZZING SOUNDS And now..... The Vivendi game listing for e3 says that StarCraft Ghost is among their games, but only lists the GC as the platform. I wonder if its just a mistake ?
Barely looks better than the XBox games. X-Box 1.5 indeed...
Seriously, I hope this isn't an indication of the graphical quality of XB360 games. I hope these are just really, really early renders from Team Ninja.
Quote:The latest issue of Coro Coro has new details, and lots of new pictures for Pokémon XD: Dark Winds Dark Lugia. The game will be similar to Pokémon Colosseum as there is still battling but there is a large RPG section as well.
The RPG section has been improved, with a beefier story and more things to do. The storyline, from what we know of it, has you playing as a very skinny male who...well who knows what he is doing but nonetheless he is armed with Pokéballs and the will to collect Pokémon.
The character will once again have the Snag Machine and an Aurora Searcher so that you can trace down Shadow Pokémon. You will begin with an Eevee, which makes me wonder if the evolution you chose will affect the game in any way. The currently known Pokémon that you can snag are Teddiursa and Lugia.
A "dark" Lugia is also very prominent in the magazine scans, and of course the game is named after it, so is bound to play a large part in this game. The game is due out in Japan on August 4th, so expect new info soon, if not next week during E3.
Basically, Dyack says what we've all pretty much known since we first heard about the split: Nintendo wants to do smaller, simpler things, and SK does not. Which is understandable. SK wants to make big, grand projects with great production values and Nintendo is afraid of voice acting. That's basically what I suspected from the beginning and Dyack pretty much confirms it, though in a much nicer way. He does say that Eternal Darkness was a very unique project since they made it with Nintendo and that they really won't be able to do the same stuff with their current partners (Sega and MS, though he doesn't say MS--you'll see at E3), that their partnership with Nintendo certainly resulted in a different kind of game for them. Which is definitely true. Making games with Nintendo is certainly going to result in a very different kind of game than if you were to make a game with say, Microsoft. And he doesn't say that as a knock against Nintendo, certainly not.
So yeah, it's pretty much what we suspected. Silicon Knights couldn't come to an agreement with Nintendo about future projects, so they split. Ah well. I hope their next game is good.
