Revolution at E3 Plus Release date: Mid '06

Both articles from IGN. Good news all around!

    Revolution at E3 2005
Nintendo may reveal more than previously suspected.
    by Juan

May 10, 2005 - The rumor that Nintendo will not reveal the successor to the GameCube, codenamed Revolution, at E3 2005 has been circulating for some time now, putting the gaming public in a tizzy over the looming disappointment. Here's the real deal: Nintendo sources have confirmed Revolution's presence at the show. The company may decide to reveal the system's official name, technical specs and even the system itself. The controller, however, will probably not be shown. It may not be the system "launch pad" gamers hoped for, but to count the Revolution as a no-show is inaccurate.

Taking into account Nintendo's E3 lineup and other information, the company will focus on the handheld market this year. Specifically, Nintendo will focus on its new online service for the Nintendo DS and perhaps deliver first details on the new Game Boy Advance. Not the genuine successor to the GBA, but an improved version of the current model boasting new features such as built-in wireless networking. It may also include the Play-Yan adapter, enabling gamers to download games, audio and videos. And of course, Nintendo will spill a ton of information on its new, free online service, since it's actually set to debut later this year.

On the console front, Nintendo will provide a playable version of The Legend of Zelda for GameCube, along with playable versions of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and Geist. Gamers can also expect to see the new Mario Baseball title. As for the Nintendo Revolution, expect certain details plus a video presentation showing a number of next-gen games. What makes the system unique may be revealed to some degree, but considering the supposed mid-2006 ship date, it plain doesn't make sense for Nintendo to reveal all, or even most, of its secrets.

Of course, it just wouldn't be E3 without a few surprises.

    Revolution Coming Mid-2006
According to the system's memory supplier, anyway.
    by Matt Casamassina

May 10, 2005 - Memory maker MoSys Inc. today announced its first quarter 2005 earnings. In a live conference call with investors and media the company's CEO and chief financial officer Mark Voll stated that MoSys would once again be supplying an embedded 1T-SRAM solution for Nintendo's forthcoming console, codenamed Revolution. He also revealed for the first time a general target ship date for the still top-secret next-generation platform.

"During the quarter we announced that NEC Electronics will now use our 1T-SRAM embedded memory technologies on their advanced 90nm process, and that the initial designs to be incorporated in SoCs will be used in Nintendo's next-generation game console, codenamed Revolution," said Voll. "We are excited to be a participating member of the Nintendo team once again as Nintendo will roll out its successor game console to the GameCube in mid-2006."

The news is exciting for two reasons: first, it's official word that Revolution will again use 1T-SRAM, the same memory standard that GameCube utilized with great results. 1T-SRAM provides significant advantages over traditional SRAM in density, power consumption and cost, according to maker MoSys. "Instead of six transistors utilized in a traditional SRAM storage cell, each 1T-SRAM storage cell contains only one transistor and one capacitor, thus reducing the silicon required and lowering cost. This technology has been proven with the shipment of millions of devices," MoSys writes on the subject.

MoSys did not reveal how much memory it would provide for Revolution.

Secondly, today's news suggests that Revolution will ship well after Sony's PlayStation 3, which is rumored for a first quarter 2006 debut.

IGN contacted Nintendo of America for further comment and will update the story later today if the subsidiary has anything to add.

    ---------------------------------------------

I just so totally blew my load all over myself! "What makes the system unique will be revealed to some degree." Yeah, sure, okay. It is so 3-D it's not even funny, I'm ejaculating like a school girl!!! PUT ON YOUR BEST CONDOM CUZ IT'S TIME TO PAR-TAY! Sony and Microsoft are going to be licking penis for an entire week and we get to watch it live. Sure, everyone will go nuts about the Xbox2.... until Nintendo shows off Revolution. And then everyone will weep, the sick will be healed, and God will pop a boner! He will! and it'll be huge and black! And it will frighten asian women! And i'll ride on it and sing Kenny Loggins songs! WE'LL ALL SING KENNY LOGGINS SONGS WHILE RIDING GOD'S PENIS! OH HELL I'M HAVING A HEART ATTACK

Ikaruga fans rejoice -- sort of. A formerly Japan-only shooter is headed to America.
    by Matt Casamassina

May 6, 2005 - IGNcube learned today that the MileStone-developed GameCube shooter Chaos Field, which was published by SEGA in Japan, is now headed for a release in America. The title will be published by Q-3 and is scheduled for a late summer debut, according to the company.

Chaos Field was originally created for SEGA's ill-fated Dreamcast console. The Ikaruga-inspired vertical shooter took players through five stages of action-packed blasting, each of them made more difficult by three separate bosses.

The Japanese version of the GameCube port was more or less a copy and paste job. No word yet on whether or not the US build will include added features.

Chaos Field will be fully playable at the Electronics Entertainment Expo 2005. Stay tuned for more.

Cool, another shooter for the Cube. :)

Online gaming on the DS is coming soon
    Posted by: Great Rumbler - 9th May 2005, 3:25 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (48)

Quote:When Nintendo President Satoru Iwata unveiled the first pieces of information regarding the DS' online plans, he left gamers with many questions. Now, in a document sent to Japanese gaming website Game Watch, he has clarified some of this information.

First off, Nintendo plans to launch somewhere around 1,000 wireless hot-spots across Japan, to help those gamers who do not already have a wireless connection in their home. These hot-spots will be free to use, and there will be no set-up required. The Nintendo DS will automatically connect to them.

At the Game Developers' Conference, Iwata mentioned that there would be no need for gamers to use complicated things such as SSIDs and WEP passwords to access Nintendo's online service. This confused many gamers, leaving the impression that the DS might not be able to access hotspots that needed this information. However, in his recent comments, Iwata has stated that in order to connect to a home wireless connection, the DS will require some configuration, but that it would be minimal if the gamer users a "Nintendo approved router."

Iwata also said that Nintendo will not charge for their online service, but they are not going to stop other publishers from charging players to access their games.

I'm already planning on setting up a wireless internet connection for my house [I'm getting a laptop sometime this year], so this is definitely good news.

      We need an E3 plan

Some of us are going to be at work (me), and some of us don't have Insider accounts (most of you), so I think what we should do is post all of the news, screens, and video links in TC as soon as we find them. No need for long posts, just a title beginning with "E3:" or something and then the links/articles/screens. I'll post as much as I can from work, but since the conferences will be going on while I'm here (blast!), I will be missing a lot of shit.

Today we celebrate our moms, those who gave us life and reminded us every chance they got that they can take it away. The women who devoted their lives to us and are waiting for us to repay them, preferably with a large cash sum.

Thank you Mom for my life! Happy Mother's day! Sorry about the muddy hand prints on the freshly painted walls!
