      Microsoft buys Lionhead Studios
    Posted by: Paco - 15th April 2006, 8:22 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (7)

it's kind of old news, but I figure this place could use anything...

Quote:Microsoft Game Studios (MGS) today announced it has purchased U.K.-based Lionhead Studios, one of the world's leading and most innovative video game developers and creators of "Fable," the hit Xbox and Windows franchise.

Lionhead Studios will immediately begin creating content exclusively for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows platforms. The companies previously worked together on the popular role-playing games "Fable" for Xbox and "Fable: The Lost Chapters" for Xbox and Windows, which have collectively surpassed the 2 million global unit sales milestone, making "Fable" the best-selling role-playing franchise on the Xbox platform. "Fable" and "Fable: The Lost Chapters" enable players to make decisions that affect their character's skills, appearances and morality and the world around them.

"At Microsoft Game Studios we have worked hard to become the best partner for the best creative talent in our industry, and this acquisition underscores our commitment to excellence," said Shane Kim, general manager of Microsoft Game Studios. "Peter Molyneux is one of the few true visionaries in our industry, and his joining us is incredibly important to the future of both interactive entertainment and MGS. Lionhead is a shining example of the innovative and creative talent that has delivered some of the most influential and unique games experiences to date, and I am honored to welcome Peter and the incredible people at Lionhead Studios."

"We could not be more excited about being part of MGS. They have long supported our creative vision, and this teamwork resulted in the hugely successful 'Fable' franchise," said Molyneux, managing director of Lionhead Studios. "This acquisition gives Lionhead the stability and opportunity to focus on creating world-class next-generation titles. We are joining some of the most incredible game creators in the industry, the combined talent of which will truly take next-generation gaming to a new level."

With today's announcement, Lionhead Studios becomes the latest member of MGS, joining such prestigious and globally recognised game creators as Bungie Studios, Ensemble Studios, FASA Studio and Rare Ltd. on a team whose charter is to create exclusive entertainment experiences that differentiate Xbox 360 and Windows from other gaming platforms.

IMO, Microsoft is creating a respectable stable of first party developers. Lionhead may be a tad over-rated, but their games are better than average, some may even say great.

I wonder if Fable 2, Dmitri, and BC will be at E3 is some form or another?

I wonder who else Microsoft has their eyes on? Slicon Knights? Mistwalker? Probably best to see how well their games sell first.

I doubt you care. In fact, I expect at least one of you to make a comment about how this is already available on the PC and the console version can't possibly be as good and why would anyone play the console version when there is a pc version and a kb + m is so much better than a controller and have you ever thought about having sex with your mom's best friends and and and...Infinity

Playstation 3 is far from complete
    Posted by: Smoke - 12th April 2006, 8:37 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (7)

Quote:THE NEWS ABOUT PS3s being scarce at E3 is kind of troubling to me, but not totally unexpected.

We are about six months from launch, and debugging should be done, prototypes and dev kits should flow like water, and all the tame magazines should already have one. The situation is rather different though, they are nowhere, and there are two related reasons behind this.

The first is size. People tell us that the current PS3s are about 50% too large to fit in the sleek but empty boxes they have been showing off. This is a problem, but a solvable one, electronics always get smaller. Time solves all, and there is still time, just not much.

More troubling to me is that Sony is still bidding on components for the boxes. This means the development is far from final, and it will be debugging up to, and in a Microsoft overheating manner, past the last minute. Not a good sign.

Overall, I think it will be out late in the year, but Sony will push the launch out as far as humanly possible. If you have one on your non-denominational year end holiday list, you may be waiting in XBox360esqe lines to get your toys. Basically, don't hold your breath waiting, you may be blue till next spring. µ

It's an explanation of the premise behind some new HD tech that'll get us into the Terabyte range a bit quicker than that one fellow with the other idea. Seems more feasible too, though that's not really explained very well by disco dancing bits.

After seeing a few grainy screenshots and knowning hardly anything about the game, I say yes.

Also can you imagine how hard it's going to be going back to classic style games after playing Revolution, the only "True Next-Gen System™"?
