      Tales from the ErichCrypt
    Posted by: etoven - 5th July 2010, 2:49 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (8)

I thought everyone might be interested in this...
I have finished the alpha version of my new security tool called ErichCrypt..

Simply right click on a file, and select "Send To --> Encrypt with ErichCrypt" and ErichCrypt will encrypt your file using TrippleDES. Also ErichCrypt integrates with windows explorer. To open a file, simply double click to open as you normally would.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

    1. ErichCrypt can't open A ErichCrypt file if the original is in the same directory.
    2. To make changes to a open file.. Simply save the file as usual. ErichCrypt will merge the changes of the file into the encrypted file when the program has closed.
    3. ErichCypt won't encrypt folders.. I'm working on that feature, but it's not done yet..
    4. Keep a backup of important files before encrypting them. ErichCrypt is a alpha, I'm not responsible for your data..
    5. Erich Crypt seems to have a issue with Office 2007 Documents, because part of the document is not in the actual file data. I'm exploring the issue.
    Enjoy...

      Ex-Nazi Avoids Extradition
    Posted by: Darunia - 3rd July 2010, 8:40 AM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (6)

    CNN.Com Article

The scoop: 88 ex-Nazi, currently residing in Australia, managed to avoid extradition to Hungary. Then, his son says Australia, which again just denied the extradition, ows THEM an apology.

On a side note, with the average age for extant Nazis being 85+, we won't be seeing very many more of this cases in the future, so enjoy it while it's here! One day we can all tell our grandchildren that we were around when Nazis roamed the Earth.

      Eureka!!
    Posted by: etoven - 1st July 2010, 7:31 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (7)

A new program called Eureka has been developed, its main purpose is it discovers algorithms. Most noticeably it discovered Einsteins theory of relativity completely on it's own by observing pendulum movement in about three weeks.

And now apparently it has discovered the code behind a human cell. The cells software as it where. The only problem is, while scientists have determined that the program output is correct and performs like a living cell, the code is so complex that scientists don't know how or why it functions correctly, scientists say the computer code is so complex that humans are unable to grasp the logic behind it.

It's like getting the keys to the castle only to find that someone has removed the door.

I think it's really scary how fast computers are becoming better problem solvers than humans.

Just think.. One day, it might be computers that unlock the mysteries of the universe not humans.

      Obama's Immigration Plan

    Obama's Immigration Plan

    Discuss.

He seems to be trying to go the middle of the road... albeit probably more on the left side of said road...

Obama said those who entered the country illegally must admit they broke the law, register with the appropriate authorities, pay taxes, pay a fine and learn English. They must "get right with the law before they can get in line and earn their citizenship."

Big talk... I wonder how much he really plans to do... especially "learn English."

Does free will exist? If so, how can you define it? If not, back up with evidence.

If one defines free will as the ability to do as one pleases entirely independent of outside influence, and based upon one's own desires:

I say it does not exist, because all decisions and thought processes undertaken by all living entities are arrived at by a long and tedious series of previous experiences. No fallible animal based possessing an imperfect biochemical brain is capable of independent, spontaneous thought. Indeed, the very idea may be altogether impossible. No matter what we say or do, we do so as the result of a long and ongoing thought process that builds upon experiences.
