Christmas Time Is Here
Posted by: Weltall - 7th December 2004, 10:34 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (28)

I know I usually get this up earler than now, but I'm so busy. I threw this together in about an hour. Sorry guys. It's a half-assed Christmas. I think it looks pretty nice considering. And I, for one, am glad to be looking at a color not red for a change.

If you're not seeing the theme and you want to, it's selectable on the list at the bottom of this page.

Enjoy!

The Official "Simcity Rules Your PC!" Thread
Posted by: Great Rumbler - 7th December 2004, 5:55 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (6)

That's right! Simcity rocks in a way that is not unlike other great things, like the wheel and electricity, rock! In fact, I would go as far as to say that Simcity is actually BETTER than the wheel and electricity! Anyway, feel free to discuss why YOU think Simcity rules your PC or just rant incoherently about how other, obviously INFERIOR, products are somehow better than Simcity while the rest of us LAUGH at your foolish...foolishness!!

Will Wright > That hack Sid Meier!*

*Actually, Sid Meier is pretty cool.

Metroid and Metroid GBA, huh, so there is a difference...
Posted by: Dark Jaguar - 4th December 2004, 1:26 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (44)

Just found out there actually is one difference between the original Metroid in Metroid Zero Mission and the Classic NES version. (No, I was NOT dumb enough to actually buy the classic version when I HAD the GB version, but I know someone who was :D.)

Namely, unlike in the version in Zero Mission, they actually found a way to let you save without having to die just like in the original. Now, with Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Metroid, and Kid Icarus too I believe, when you pause the game you can press up and A at the same time to get to the save menu without having to die. Heck, in Metroid you can get in situations where it's impossible to die and yet you are stuck. First read about it in the Zelda 2 instruction booklet under saving. They even kept this intact in their incarnations on Gamecube. On GBA, there's only one controller though. So, in Metroid Zero Mission's version, as I feared, it was gone completely. But, apparently they just mapped it to controller 1 in the Classic version (actually, instead of up and A, you press up and select). So, you can save without dying in classic, but not the one included in Zero Mission... Well, doesn't that suck... Oh well, there isn't a death counter and so long as I keep the deaths low enough I can still get the best ending... Still, I gotta quit every now and then, and sometimes I like to save if I'm afraid I'm actually going to die so I can avoid adding it to the counter. Still, I suppose it's minor.

In fact, it honestly doesn't really deserve it's own thread, not even here...

Ye Olde Soul Calibur II Tournament
Posted by: EdenMaster - 1st December 2004, 10:51 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (41)

This didn't work out the first time I tried it, but per the suggestion of A Black Falcon, I'm going to try it again.

To enter, post what character you want, which weapon you want to use (if you don't know the name, a description will do. If no weapon is picked, the characters original weapon will be used), and if you like you can choose a skin too. You can pick any one of the 25 characters in the roster, but the only console-specific character available is Link. Heihachi and Spawn fans need not apply. Once we have enough to stage a tournament, I'll do one-on-one battles in a bracket formation in the Battle Theater until we have a winner.

All battles will be best 2 out of 3 and be held in the Mansion Library stage.

So, sign up!

EdenMaster - Cervantes - Falchion
Dark Jaguar - Link - Great Fairy Sword (I mean, Black Rose Sword...)
A Black Falcon - Seung Mina - Soul Edge (Complete)
Great Rumbler - Nightmare - Soul Edge
Sacred Jellybean - Voldo - Manus & Ayus
Nick Burns - Astaroth - Thanatos

Small game made by some Japanese person in their spare times.

Izza shooter!

Differenter, it's like as the enemy is alive.

Okay, enuffa that. So's, you fight a boss over and over again, only depending on how you fight, it evolves. Also, rather than limited lives, when you die it greatly impacts the time left to defeat the boss. Normally there is plenty to kill the boss, but each death means you have to speed up the process if you don't want a game over. Also, there's this cool aiming feature. When you press a certain button an adjustable shot zone will appear. You can change it's size and aim just by moving, and to keep it fixed just hold down the fire button. Makes for some good strategy to counter the evolving boss.

WARNING FOREVER! Engrish Name!

New Namco Games
Posted by: A Black Falcon - 1st December 2004, 9:31 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (8)

For the DS, Xenosaga and Baten Kaitos. No other details yet... (Gamespot)

Oh yeah, and they released Mr. Driller - Drill Spirits for DS (in the US.). Also on the DS front, it's selling really well -- 90% of the initial shipment of 500,000 has sold. They're forcasting 5 million sales by the end of March. Sony? When the PSP comes out in Japan this month, they'll only have 200,000 available...

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/12/01/...14218.html

For the GBA, Ace Combat Advance, Klonoa 2, Pac-Man Pinball and Mr. Driller 2.

Quote:Today, Namco sent out a press release outlining its handheld line up. Besides including the already released--and reviewed--DS titles Ridge Racer DS and Mr. Driller Drill Spirits, the announcement revealed a trio of new titles for the Game Boy Advance--and one very old one.

First up is Ace Combat Advance, a handheld cousin to Namco's successful Ace Combat series for the PlayStation 2. The game casts players as a greenhorn pilot in the United Air Defense, an air force battling "an evil worldwide economic superpower" called General Resources Ltd. Ace Combat Advance will sport 10 planes in its pint-sized virtual hangar and offer 12 missions. The game is due in February 2005.

Also coming in February 2005 is Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament, another scaled-down spin-off of a PS2 game, Klonoa 2. Both games feature the same "floppy-eared protagonist" Klonoa. However, the GBA version is a side-scrolling adventure set in five worlds that combine "platform, puzzle and adventure elements," according to Namco. As one might expect in a game called Dream Champ Tournament, Klonoa's goal will be to be come the Dream Champion by snatching up the most stars, sun, and moon fragments within a limited duration of time.

Another title due in 2005--though Namco doesn't specify when--is Pac-Man Pinball. The first pinball came to feature the company's emblematic character casts the round protagonist as the ball itself. In order to "rescue" them, players will shoot Pac-Man at other characters from the Pac oeuvre, like Ms. Pac-Man. Standing in his way will be his traditional enemies, the ghosts Blinky, Inky, Pinky, and Clyde. Pac-Man Pinball will also sport several mini-games "to keep the action fresh," in Namco's words.

Namco's fourth "new" GBA title isn't new at all. In Japan, Mr. Driller 2 was a launch title for the handheld back in 2001. It will make its stateside debut four years later, sometime in 2005. The puzzle game features the titular hero facing off against a female competitor, Anna Hottenmayer, in three contests--Mission Driller, Endless Driller and Time Attack Driller--where they must drill the maximum amount of blocks to win. Mr. Driller 2 also has Game Link functionality, allowing for competition between two GBA-owners.

Godzilla Final Wars
Posted by: Great Rumbler - 1st December 2004, 2:24 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (33)

According to Toho, this will be the LAST Godzilla movies ever made, of course they said that before and 20 years later they started making more again, but anyway. They're pulling out all the stops for this one, cities all over the world get destroyed, nearly all the Godzilla monsters come back [even the lesser known ones], and Godzilla [get this] fights with AMERICAN Godzilla [who's CG!!]!!! It's just now being released in Japan so it'll still be sometime before it comes out on DVD. I can't wait to see it!
