      Arcades! Who goes to them?
    Posted by: Dark Jaguar - 22nd May 2006, 2:00 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (20)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart_Arcade_GP

There are games like THIS that actually exist. So, my question is simple enough. How long has it been since you went to an arcade? Myself? Probably going on 3 years now. Part of it is the fact that arcades are shutting down left and right. Part of it is the few arcades I find myself in proximity to (the ones you see inside movie theaters for example) have NOTHING NEW. Every game is at least 5 years old, if not a LOT more, with "classics" like Time Crisis 1 and Mortal Kombat 3 sitting around.

So hey, Nintendo might release a Mario Kart game for the arcade with Pacman in it, but if I never once see the thing what good is it?

SNK Playmore To Focus On Wii
    Posted by: Smoke - 19th May 2006, 8:03 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (7)

Quote:Talking in an online interview, SNK Playmore USA president Ben Herman has claimed that the Wii will receive the most support of any next generation format from the company, due to its greater suitability to the publisher’s traditional 2D games.

According to the interview on Advanced Media Network, SNK Playmore has no plans to release any further titles on the Xbox, and feels 2D games are not suitable for the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Sherman also confirms that Sony of America rejected a number of 2D projects from the company for the PlayStation 2 because they did not correspond to the company’s graphical standards, as well as limiting the number of releases that featured two retro titles in one package.

SNK Playmore has already announced the compilation Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii, making the surprising announcement that the games would be retrofitted to take advantage of the Wii remote rather than just using the “shell” controller.

The company’s plans for the Wii’s virtual console are still unclear, however, with Sherman himself admitting that that he is in talks with Nintendo about older NES and SNES titles, as well as potentially the Neo-Geo AES games for which the company is most famous. However, the greater storage size of titles such as Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters, as well as possible conflicts of interest from selling titles such as Metal Slug in stores, may make this impossible.

Indeed, Sherman indicated that that the company’s interest in releasing titles for Xbox Live Arcade had been to a degree limited because of a lack of memory and a need to compress game data onto an Xbox 360 memory unit, in order to support users without a hard drive.

      Takashi Tezuka E3 Interview
    Posted by: Smoke - 19th May 2006, 7:37 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (5)

Quote:PGC: We saw at the press conference that when everyone was playing tennis, they had Mr. Iwata's face and everyone else's face put on the characters. Are there any thoughts of putting in a system were players can draw their own faces?

TT: Yeah, that's going to be a part of [Wii Sports] and it's going to have hardware functionality, that you will be able to use some set images and match them up together to create faces. You can also do some editing of your own to create stuff that's closer to yourself and your friends. These will remain in the hardware system so that you can use them throughout the Wii Sports titles and maybe with other software titles, too. We'll just see how that works….so we'll have a character-creating piece of software, I guess.

Consider switching to Tendo City X: Sunlight & TovenNet Radio, or Tendo City X: Twilight & TovenNet radio. Just select the new theme and open your buddy list.

TovenNet Radio airs from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM EST.

As most of you already know (read, have no clue about and probably don't care), the Edmonton Oilers have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 1992. This is absolutely huge for the city of Edmonton, the province of Alberta, and the entire country in general. After every Oilers game the fans congregate on Whyte Ave, which has already become legendary. The atmosphere is insane and people from all over the province (myself included) have been going to Whyte Ave after Oilers game to get a taste of the incredible party atmosphere. I am making this thread the official EDMONTON OILERS THREAD where the board can come and cheer the Oilers on through the final two rounds of playoffs.

Actually, the only reason I made this thread was to share this spectacular video of some of the more obnoxious fans and how one person on Whyte took the celebration a little too far. Did he even know these girls?

The Legend of Wii: Secret of The Flap
    Posted by: Smoke - 17th May 2006, 11:34 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (2)

Quote:I personally drilled a Nintendo® rep (while waiting for him to fix a Wiimote for the Tennis demo) about what was under the flap on the front of the console (any 3D projection in there?), after dodging like a Jedi knight and acting like he didn't hear me several times he got very nervous and finally said "I can't talk about it or I will get fired".
