      Konami pre-E3 newsvideo released
    Posted by: A Black Falcon - 2nd June 2011, 3:46 PM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (2)

I say supposedly, because their site is down... not good, when it's supposed to start in 15 minutes. Anyone who remembers last year's Konami conference might know why -- it was an instantly infamous conference full of hilarity. I doubt they can match that same insane magic again, but we'll see...

(Also, yes, it's almost E3! Nintendo's is on the 7th I think, the others on the 6th or so... getting excited? :))

So there's a new Looney Toons show...
    Posted by: Dark Jaguar - 31st May 2011, 4:39 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (8)

.... I don't like it. The animation is bad, the voices are way off (the witch in particular is completely off), the premise is annoying (sticking ALL the characters into suburbia is annoying, just make new ones like Tiny Toons if you are going to do that), and I could forgive that, all of it, if it just wasn't such a BORE. It just drags on and on. They have 3 or so storylines all going on at once, and none of them is very entertaining. Every single gag is just pathetic. They try to modernize it, but they don't. Granted, that can go badly, but in this case, there's lots of stuff they could do that wouldn't come off as "radicool" and they just don't do it. The thing ended with a classic styled CG short with Wile E Coyote. Kinda funny, but they totally missed a few obvious gags with the zip line.

Funny thing is, I actually like the recent Tom and Jerry animated movie things. The biggest crime those commit is that they focus too much on the newly created characters, but at least those characters are well written. Love the soccer mom.

I really don't know what the deal is. Duck Dodgers was pretty funny. It went a little too "ultra fantastic" in the action scenes instead of the "subdued" almost pathetic fights of the classic cartoons, but it was still pretty funny. This? Somehow they actually managed to make Speedy more offensive, and they completely missed out on actually USING the fact that he's fast for something. He's starting a pizza business. Why couldn't they have him actually DELIVER the pizzas? That'd actually put his speed to some use. Also, why pizzas? He's supposed to represent Mexican culture, so why not fish tacos?

    Bullet time bean counting?

Am I the only one who immediately imagined "The Count" from sesame street during that scene? Kinda takes the "umph" out of it.

    THE BASIC IDEA
AI-PROJECT is comprised of 2 parts, query master, and cloud script.
The basic idea is to create giant script capable of carrying out a multitude of tasks, based on user input, similar to the computers is science fiction in shows like star trek for example. The idea is that eventually a engine can be developed that could be the basis for the way all future programs can handle and process natural language requests.

    CLOUD SCRIPT
The script will run on a scripting engine that is cloud based. Computers visiting the site become compiler pertinents, this is done with client side JavaScript and Ajax. A user need only be on the site to contribute processor time. This eliminates the need to install anything and fasciculate ease of use. Next scripts are broken up into modules with each one responsible for charring out a user defined task. Models are created using Wiki principles. The basic flow is this:

    1. The user names a request (For example, what is the weather in Florida right now?)
    2. The cloud script engine checks to see if a module is available to handle the request
    3. If no module is available the user is invited to contribute a module using a easy to use script editor.
    4. The engine has learned new skill.
    5. Attentionality users will be invited to contribute code in existing modules as well, in a Wiki like fashion.
    QUERY MASTER
Query master is a special part of the cloud script, script, it is basically a simple drag and drop scripting language in itself, that returns a hit or miss value. This section of the script checks whether the user input applies to this script or not and returns that information back into the script cloud. A simple query master script for the above example might be, “Contains +what, +is, +all synonyms of (weather), +all synonyms of (right now).” If multiple scripts indicate that they can handle the request then the user is presented with a choice of handlers to use, in the form of a clarification request.

    THE SCRIPTING LANGUAGE
The language will use JavaScript as a basic foundation. The JavaScript will be extended to include a fusion of client side and server side processing using Ajax queries to the master server. The master server will provide server side libraries for preforming such tasks like retrieving XML and RSS data, sending emails, performing Google searches, and many other things.

What gets me isn't what they got wrong (like the 3 computers lined up next to each other, or the touch pad instead of a keyboard) but the still that was actually pretty much spot on (like the fact that people still feel the need to print out bank statements).

The Lion King being remade in 3d
    Posted by: A Black Falcon - 28th May 2011, 10:04 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (10)

    http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/27/.../?hpt=Sbin

How odd... I really wonder how well this is going to work, taking a drawn movie and then trying to go back and redo it into 3d... I have doubts about how good the 3d will be, for sure. Still though, if it's actually good it'd be pretty interesting, The Lion King was probably the peak of modern Disney animation. Aladdin is my personal favorite, but The Lion King is probably the peak, animation-wise.

Rolling Stone Analyzes Fox News' Spin Machine

Very interesting article. It's long, but explaining the whole Fox News story takes a while. The charts showing how almost all Fox hosts follow the talking points precisely is particularly valuable. Of course everyone already knew that Fox does this stuff and has done it for years, but still it's interesting to see it all laid out there clearly.

    Those charts are here: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/new...524?page=2
