Hard not be excited about Arkham City after how awesome Arkahm Asylum turned out to be. And you get to play [for roughly 20% of the main game] as the impossibly-sexy Catwoman, so I don't see how you can go wrong there.
It looks...not very good. The graphics look dated, as does the animations. Some of the alien stuff looks kinda of neat, but nothing about the gameplay looks even remotely compelling. If I didn't know better, I'd think this was some budget game from a first-time developer or maybe something from an unknown Eastern European team.
Instead it's 2K Marin, people who did some work on Bioshock and developed Bioshock 2. Very disappointing, eve knowing how Bioshock 2 turned out. Also disappointing in that it bears absolutely no resemblance to the X-COM series.
This really does look amazing, like a WRPG that somehow made its way to Japan and became really super hard. Really like the scale and the way everything looks really dark [without being murky].
Definitely a game I'm looking forward to this year.
Quote:In an interview with Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello, the Wall Street Journal reports (subscription required to view) Star Wars: The Old Republic will exclusively be a part of their new digital delivery service named Origin. EA will announce more details about Origin tomorrow (Friday).
The article reaffirms players will be able to purchase SWTOR in retail stores as well as from Origin, but the EA service will be the only internet-based one to digitally distribute the game. As we reported in our coverage of the UBS Media and Communications conference, EA CFO Eric Brown stated the game's PC client will be available in both a retail packaged format and digital download format. The Origin service is described as similar to iTunes and will let players purchase, download and keep track of multiple EA game purchases as well as act as a social networking platform. This functionality is available to players even if they don't purchase the game through Origin.
Can't really say that I have much interest in this, but they're supposedly offering exclusive content for their games so maybe it would be worth it for that. Still, I like having all my DD games on Steam, and not scattered across a dozen different services.
I say supposedly, because their site is down... not good, when it's supposed to start in 15 minutes. Anyone who remembers last year's Konami conference might know why -- it was an instantly infamous conference full of hilarity. I doubt they can match that same insane magic again, but we'll see...
(Also, yes, it's almost E3! Nintendo's is on the 7th I think, the others on the 6th or so... getting excited? :))
.... I don't like it. The animation is bad, the voices are way off (the witch in particular is completely off), the premise is annoying (sticking ALL the characters into suburbia is annoying, just make new ones like Tiny Toons if you are going to do that), and I could forgive that, all of it, if it just wasn't such a BORE. It just drags on and on. They have 3 or so storylines all going on at once, and none of them is very entertaining. Every single gag is just pathetic. They try to modernize it, but they don't. Granted, that can go badly, but in this case, there's lots of stuff they could do that wouldn't come off as "radicool" and they just don't do it. The thing ended with a classic styled CG short with Wile E Coyote. Kinda funny, but they totally missed a few obvious gags with the zip line.
Funny thing is, I actually like the recent Tom and Jerry animated movie things. The biggest crime those commit is that they focus too much on the newly created characters, but at least those characters are well written. Love the soccer mom.
I really don't know what the deal is. Duck Dodgers was pretty funny. It went a little too "ultra fantastic" in the action scenes instead of the "subdued" almost pathetic fights of the classic cartoons, but it was still pretty funny. This? Somehow they actually managed to make Speedy more offensive, and they completely missed out on actually USING the fact that he's fast for something. He's starting a pizza business. Why couldn't they have him actually DELIVER the pizzas? That'd actually put his speed to some use. Also, why pizzas? He's supposed to represent Mexican culture, so why not fish tacos?
