Quote:May 13, 2003 - At Nintendo's E3 press conference, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata once again confirmed that Nintendo is not planning to play catch-up with Sony with its next console release.
"Nintendo has never been more focused," said Iwata during his presentation on the state of Nintendo and the industry. "We will not retreat." Iwata said that GameCube's successor is long in the works and that this time around, there would be no head-start for the competition.
GameCube launched a full year after PlayStation 2. Given the convergence of technology and, as it claims, the negligible differences between the consoles' raw hardware power, Nintendo believes that the one year head-start was a crucial advantage for Sony. PlayStation 2 released in 2000, five years after the original PlayStation.
Due to the overwhelming success of the PS2, industry insiders position the launch window for Sony's next console in early 2005, with a US release later that year. If Nintendo were to pull even with PlayStation 3, GameCube's lifecycle would be a mere four years, one year short of the last generation. GameCube released in 2001, five years after its predecessor's debut in 1996.
More as it breaks.
Hmm, perhaps that's why EAD's 2003 lineup is so empty? Maybe they're developing games for the N2005 launch.
A game where a guy gets kicked in the crotch by pirates while carrying cheeseburgers and a remake of Conker's Bad Fur Day. Whoopie.
Quote:Rare has made some strange things in its day, and it seems to be continuing on that tradition with its new Grabbed by the Ghoulies franchise. A sort of light-hearted, horror adventure, featuring a cel-shaded look and quirky animation, it's definitely unique.
Quote:While it won't be the first Rare game on Xbox, Conker: Live and Uncut will probably leap to the top of the list of most watned Rare game by virtue of its N64 popularity and the fact that it's in a lot better condition at this point than it's main challenger in the popularity contest: Perfect Dark 2. He's still the raunchiest cartoon squirrel to ever down a bottle of rotgut one minute and curse an evil crap monster the next. Conker: Live and Uncut will feature the single player game from the original N64 title Conker's Bad Fur Day but it will updated with Xbox quality graphics and sound and new naughty content that never made it into the Nintendo game. The main thrust however will be Conker's multiplayer Xbox Live compatibility that will have players shooting up a storm but in cleverly designed missions and movie-themed settings
...Is this the part where I say "What the heck has Rare been doing for the past year?!"
Nintendo saved Mario 3 for last because they wanted to do something extra special with it. Just look at these screens! (hint: I'm not talking about the graphics)
Well the press conference is over and there was absolutely no sign of any new, original Miyamoto game. Talk around the net is that this stupid Pacman game is it. I cannot fucking believe it. EAD isn't even trying anymore.
Quote:Have you ever wanted to be one of the ghosts in Pac-Man, not the yellow disc himself? Well, now's your chance.
Thanks to Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's EAD development studio, and cooperation from Namco, the Big N announced a massive treat for retro gamers at today's pre-E3 event.
Pac-Man for the Nintendo GameCube will include the original, 1980 classic. But, this time around, four players can work against each other and together. One person controls Pac-Man, while three others position the ghosts. The player responsible for Pac-Man plays on a Game Boy Advance; when he's caught, the controller gets passed onto the ghost-gamer who snagged him.
There's no release date or media for Pac-Man on the GameCube yet, but we'll have more soon, hopefully. Stay tuned.
