Quote:It appears that the original Final Fantasy series will be resurrected on the GBA. Square-Enix has unveiled its latest release of Final Fantasy I&II Advance.
The titles appear to be retooled ports of the WonderSwan Colour remakes, and will be released as a single cartridge.
Final Fantasy, as many gamers fondly recall, had the Light Warriors fighting the evil machinations of CHAOS. By choosing from a variety of classes, there were multiple ways of playing the game.
Final Fantasy II, on the other hand is a much more story-centric title. With four pre-defined characters and a variety of weapons to master, it took the series in an entirely new direction.
Quote:Today we got the official word that Ubisoft is releasing Far Cry: Instinct a console version of its popular PC title Far Cry for all platforms. We will have more details as they are revealed. For now check out the press release issued by Ubisoft:
Far Cry, highly successful PC franchise, to be re-imagined on select next-generation consoles as 'Far Cry Instincts'
Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that its award-winning Montreal Studio is currently producing Far Cry Instincts, console versions based on the recently released, tropical PC shooter. The console versions will be an entirely new game built from the ground up using the most advanced technology Far Cry fans have come to expect.
"Looking at Far Cry's incredible success in Europe, which is currently the n°1 selling PC game in all territories' charts, we are confident that Far Cry Instincts will be one of Ubisoft's most striking games this year," said Florence Alibert, Ubisoft's Marketing Director for EMEA territories. "The Montreal-based development team, gathering most of the talented members behind the original Splinter Cell , plans to further reinforce Far Cry Instincts' position as one of Ubisoft's key brands for the future."
Just as Far Cry redefined the FPS genre on the PC, Far Cry Instincts will introduce wide open environments and unique, immersive gameplay elements that are destined to become the definition of survival action. In addition to the PC version's signature locations, non-scripted A.I., and unprecedented view-distance, Far Cry Instincts will feature brand new gameplay scenarios that will challenge players to use an even broader range of strategies and survival tactics in order to uncover the many secrets within the beautiful-but-deadly islands.
Quote:Japanese magazine Enterbrain today revealed that Nintendo remains the top software publisher in Japan, a position they hold regularly in the Land of the Rising Sun. However, Enterbrain President Hirokazu Hamamura said something interesting after stating, "[The Nintendo DS] will be a product unlike anything available right now and it will come with a touch panel," Hamamura added that Nintendo is prepared to unveil 30 titles for the Nintendo DS at this year's E3 show in May. It is unknown whether he meant 30 titles developed by Nintendo or 30 titles from multiple publishers, but either way it is a great number of games for a system's E3 debut. Can E3 come any sooner?
Yeah, this E3 is going to be huge, no doubt about it.
"Classics Reborn" SOUNDS like they are about to list some remakes coming out right? No, it's just a bunch of people saying "you know what game would be really cool if they remade it in 3D?". I mean, that's not news! That's not even entertainment news! That's just stuff I do already with my friends, and I KNOW no one else would want to know or even care about that.
Then they did the same thing with the NES wish list. Honestly, THAT'S your top story? That's not a story! Reporting the wants of the REPORTERS and NOTHING ELSE is NOT news!
I know they need to make money, and to get people to pay for it they need to provide news very often, but the fact is that the game industry can be rather devoid of news for long periods of time. Reporting "non-news" like "a rumor has it that Sony will be adding a satellite service to the PSP, though Sony denies said rumors" (meaning the rumor is already disproven but they want to report it anyway), or worse, "we think it would be SO awesome if they made a new Battletoads game" (Seriously, as though you wouldn't get the same quality "news report" just by reading Scribes at Rareware.com) does NOT make it worth paying for. It just adds garbage to wade through to get to real news.
This is just insane... Video games soon as big an advertising medium as television? We PAY for our video games! We don't WANT commericals popping up when we pause the game!
Quote:Earlier this morning, there came reports of John Woo optioning a film based off of the popular Nintendo franchise, Metroid. This is only one other major step in his involvement within the videogame industry since he is already knee deep in three original titles yet to be revealed at his own Tiger Hill development studio.
"We are very fortunate that there is such an extensive amount of material to draw upon for the film due to there being so many iterations of the game over the years," Woo said.
The film will reportedly center on Samus Aran's origins and her action-packed battles with the Metroids and Mother Brain.
"We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property," said Brad Foxhoven, who also serves as a producer. "As for the rest of the film, we will stay true to the game and have Samus battling the Metroids and Mother Brain in a fight for control of the galaxy."
Producers Warren Zide and Craig Perry once optioned the film rights back in January of 2003 but has since let them expire. John Woo's Tiger Hill leaped at their first possible chance.
On a seperate note, Nintendo is all set to unveil the eighth Metroid title, tentatively known as Metroid Prime 2 during this year's E3 on May 11th. The game will be shipped to the GameCube in November. (als)

I'm a huge fan of John Woo's Hong Kong work but he hasn't made a good movie since 1992's Hard Boiled, so I'm not as thrilled as I would be if this were the early 90's.
