It's a Wii...signed by Reggie. Normally I'd be skeptical of anything autographed on eBay, but this is from Penny Arcade's Gabe and Tycho to support their charity. I can see Reggie signing a Wii for them.
So what do you think? There's a week to go and it's already over $1000.
It's the first Metroidvania I actually own... like it a lot, I'm at Dracula at about 10-12 hours in (though there's also one other dungeon to explore, and then several hidden modes are unlocked, and there are the rest of the quests and stuff to do...). The main complaint seems to be "it's too similar to past Castlevanias/Metroidvanias" and indeed I do notice a lot of repeat enemies from past games (some sprites in the game even date back to Rondo of Blood...), but oh well... at least they mixed things up a bit with the dual character design (and the first playable-from-the-beginning female character in a 2d Castlevania game since the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night, and that was Japan-only... (if 3d games count, then Castlevania 64 would be the last one; not Legacy of Darkness though, you unlock the original characters after playing it with the first two.)) and the portraits (for some variation in environments and enemies)... it does have grind if you want to though, and seeing all those empty slots in the guides makes me want to... :)
... on that note, during Christmas break I finally really started Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness (it's actually a pretty good 3d action/platform game, unlike my expectations), and got almost to the end of Super Castlevania IV...
Anyone going to buy it again? I know I already have two versions of it, but for my favorite game of all time I am still tempted by it. Please convince me not to buy it for a 3rd time.
Edit: Changing thread name since discussion has moved far beyond LttP at this point
It's game where there's lots of snow and giant bugs burst up out of the ground and you shoot them with various weapons. That's the game in its entirety really. Of course it also has nice graphics and music and lots of explosions and stuff of that nature.
My impression of the first thirty minutes: Man, this game is totally awesome!!
My impression of the second thirty minutes: Man, this is starting to feel kind of...samey...and the controls are dumb.
So...whereas Gears of War provided a solid 7-8 hours [give or take] of intense run-and-gun bug blasting awesome, Lost Planet seems to fall into the trap of "I really don't want to shoot the same guy for the one thousandth time because it feels as though there is no point". Gears definitely has the survival aspect in its favor and the fact that getting killed as much easier. Lost Planet has tons of ammo scattered everywhere and getting killed requires you to either fall down into a [near] bottomless pit or run out of energy. Energy is everywhere. If you kill a monster, you get energy. If you kill a snow pirate, you get energy. It's used for powering the mechs and using energy guns as well as giving you a boost jump and automatically healing you when you get shot or hit by a giant bug.
It's plan to see why this game is not getting 9's and 10's across the board, having said that, the game is still fun. Fighting snow pirates really sucks though...
as you may not know, my wife minka has left me. she told me she wants to have sex with other men and when i mentioned marraige counseling she called her dad and got on a plane. she's ignoring me completely, she wont take my calls or call me. her parents are even more immature, her mom hung up on me and her dad sent me an email stating that he will not talk to minka or help me get to holland or give a place to stay. i am at my end, she wont tell me if she wants me to come there or not. i am begging you tendocity to please help me get through to her.
I'd known about this game for years, but don't think I'd ever seen any footage of it... It was really too bad that this one was cancelled. Viewpoint (Neo-Geo game later ported to Genesis and PSX) was a great game... ridiculously hard, but great...
