    Lightbulb Racial Realism
    Posted by: Sacred Jellybean - 11th July 2020, 1:17 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (12)

After having partaken in many discussions with the Intellectual Dark Web (said in menacing, echoy voice), I have come to make a proclamation. It's very important than we dispense with needless, feel-good PC speech policing and safe spaces. I posit to you that there are very real and inherent differences in each race. Each of these can be traced back to biology and genealogy.

Ever notice how every sports competition is dominated by Gorons? There's nothing controversial about acknowledging that they are born with stronger muscles and bone density. Evolutionary biologists would be remiss to dismiss this. And in the interest of galaxy-brain scientific inquiry, without a cough of bigotry, we must also have the courage to ask such questions as: what accounts for the IQ differences between Gorons and Hylians?

Big ivory castle academics will hem and haw and hand-wave this away. They suggest that the differences stem purely from Gorons being born and raised in caves, with inferior school systems that consist not of books, but primitive stone tablets. Rampant rock thievery and poverty also causes some Goron families to have trouble putting food on the table. The stress and malnourishment causes developmental issues in little Goron children, which has long-term ramifications on IQ.

Preposterous! I ask you, why have Gorons fallen behind to begin with? You can see this in caves all throughout Hyrule, all the way to the wealthy ("Goron-rich") Death Mountain. When will Gorons pull themselves up by the bootstraps?

Look, I'm not a Hylian supremacist. To show a token of good faith, I'll also admit that Zora are inherently better at math than either Gorons or Hylians. You may even call them a "model minority". So why should Gorons expect a hand-out and free pass, when Zora immigrants come to Hyrule and dominate STEM fields? I say, best candidate for the job! What if I'm seeing a Goron doctor, and have to worry about whether he was allowed through medical school via affirmative action?

We're charting a dangerous course for Socialist Communist Marxist Hylian Cultural Genocide. Why, over to the west, they're even giving Gerudo women spears and letting them stand guard. Madness! A Goron could roll in and knock them over like a bunch of bowling pins! A Gerudo woman will never be a... hey... I've never even seen a Gerudo man. THEY'VE ALREADY DISPOSED OF THEM!

The point is, this is REALITY, people. We don't live in a land of fairies and elves! Facts don't care about your feelings!

      Blackface/white face and Hollywood
    Posted by: Darunia - 8th July 2020, 5:36 AM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (12)

A white person donning "blackface" make-up is worthy of a person losing their livelihood and career regardless of context. Even someone who did it twenty years ago before it was so taboo is no excuse, and freedome of opinion has no bearing in this case. Similarly no white people can voice black/asian/etc. cartoons anymore (think Apu on the Simpsons and Cleveland on Family Guy), why has nobody spoken about the film "White Chicks" or "Hamilton?" Why is it all right for minorities to don the attire and personas of white founding fathers, but if a white person dresses up as a person of color, they are public enemy number one? Are you seriously advocating that in the future, actors can only voice characters of the same color as them? Can black actors only voice black cartoon characters going forward or does this only apply to caucasians?

The ultra-liberal mobs and BLM are not trying to create a free, egalitarian society---they are actively building one wherein minorities are beyond reproach, and all must IMMEDIATELY acquiesce to whatever their demands may be... they have the right to riot, vandalize and destroy public property, and pandemic warnings about congregating outside don't apply to them... how many large companies have recently dropped a product or TV show, or altered something, or in some other way pandered to the mobs? I am a stone-cold atheist, as you may know, but why is it all right for rioters to meet and protest in the streets, but religious people can't congregate and pray? How about either nobody can go out en masse, or we all can... but we're pandering, aren't we folks?

If I am outraged by something, can we cancel it to make me feel better too?

If I am offended by something, can I riot/raze/tear/burn it down without any due process? Or does it only apply to liberal mobs? Can you? Can BLM?

Is there really an objective "good" or "evil" in the universe, or is everything nuanced and open to interpretation?

The most random question of the year...
    Posted by: Darunia - 2nd July 2020, 12:41 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (2)

...I have been playing old PC games with my sons, and I told them how I used to make my own 3D levels with a program called Jed. Tons of fun. Fast forward to 2020, and I can't make the program load. It tells me, D3DRM.DLL is missing. I did looking on YouTube and Google and I kind of know what that means but I am VERY bad at this kind of thing, and I am hoping that one of you can tell me--

How can I resolve this problem so I can use Jed to make levels again with my sons?

If you are able to help me, please break it down into simple instructions!

As compensation, I will pay you 500 rupees.

      Dónde estaremos en cinco años
    Posted by: Darunia - 29th June 2020, 9:19 AM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (3)

Friends, colleagues, gorons one and all----it appears to me that we are indeed living in the end times. I speak not of religion or myth, but of the end of this great American experiment. Between the pandemic, race wars and Trump, this is not the country it was just five years ago, or even five months ago.

Question: do you PERSONALLY, HONESTLY think that in five or ten years, things will be BETTER or WORSE than they are now?

    Yours,

HRM Darvnivs Maximvs, King of the Gorons and Ireland, lord of all deli workers, rex graecorum, et cetera.

    Rainbow JK Rowling and transphobia
Posted by: Sacred Jellybean - 20th June 2020, 8:51 PM - Forum: Den of the Philociraptor - Replies (1)

These tweets seem pretty innocuous to me...

What's wrong about this? The prominent belief that sex and gender are different concepts is accepted by both liberals and sociologists. We have two words to categorize women: transwomen and ciswomen. So why is it offensive to say that ciswomen have a different experience than transwomen? They're both women (gender) but have different anatomy (sex). ...and? So why is Rowling getting raked over the coals?

She expands on her beliefs in this essay: https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-r...er-issues/

It's heartfelt, and most of it seems reasonable to me. The most objectionable parts seem to be:

    • Women deserve and are entitled their own spaces (i.e. it's okay to exclude transwomen in same cases)
    • We must not be too hasty to allow transwomen to enter female-designated bathrooms, dressing rooms, and other vulnerable spaces. Rowling laments that Scotland allows a person to simply declare they are a woman, to be considered one in the eyes of the law.
Rowling has a history of domestic abuse (she is traumatized by it to the point where sudden loud noises frighten her). This has instilled into her a latent fear of men, making her leery of cagey men who want to pose as transwomen, to enter safe spaces of women. Most of us liberals can agree that it's bigoted to conflate transwomen with men. This is a sticky scenario, though. Here we have a battered woman, who has a visceral reaction to a male body, and fears that a criminal cismale will potentially pose as a transwoman and invade women-only spaces and assault them.

Let's be clear: this is an incredibly rare occurrence. But it does happen: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018...der-prison

I have no figures to back this up, but my intuition is that it's less likely for a dangerous man to pose as a transwoman, than it is for a transwoman to be thrown into a group of men and be assaulted. So is this a utilitarian issue, where we have to weigh the options? As trans rights take hold, wouldn't it follow that criminals will exploit them for their own ends?

Why is it so controversial that a person's sex will inform their experience? The way I see it, if that was false, then transgenderism wouldn't exist to begin with. Isn't the central issue with being transgendered that the "gender" of your brain doesn't align with your bodily sex? So how could your biology NOT have an affect on your mentality?

As for Rowling, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I think her feelings are valid, and besides, as a man and supporter of feminism, I'm troubled by the idea of attacking a woman for her opinion. But, I can also see how her comments are problematic and transphobic. It's ironic to me that feminist activists would harass and threaten her. Surely there must be a middle-ground where feminists stand up for their transwomen members, and not outright attack another woman?

      New Paper Mario
Posted by: Dark Jaguar - 7th June 2020, 6:04 PM - Forum: Tendo City - No Replies

Oh yes, a return to the original style of Paper Mario and Thousand Year Door.

It's called Bug Fables.  It's good.  It's whimsical and charming and also has layers of depth.  The combat takes the best parts of Super Mario RPG (3 characters in each battle which are developed equally across the game), Paper Mario (the most obvious inspiration), and Mario & Luigi (the combinations).

The art style is a more simplistic childlike version of Paper Mario.  I suppose you could compare it to Yoshi's Island, but a little smoother.  Other than that, flat land and cell shading- that's what you're getting here.

The sound design is excellent.  The music is addictive and fitting and the sounds give the general feel of a "lived in" world.

The storyline is a return to that older Mario RPG style.  The characters are fleshed out and there's emotional moments with some depth but without straying from that childlike charm.

Oh, but there is one more thing.  The game is HARD.  This is the "Lost Levels" of Paper Mario style games.  There's a challenge badge you can equip at the very start which makes the game even harder.  You'll have to think through every single boss fight with that thing on, but you get extra XP and special rewards for every boss you beat with it on.

I have only just begun, so this isn't a detailed review, but I highly recommend it.  It's on Switch right now, maybe other things I dunno.  It's $25 of your earth dollars.

See it at the local playhouse, right after the world events reel.

Japan sure nailed that era of animation pretty well.
