So evidently Rebellion now owns a bunch of Sierra properties Activision dropped...

    Not exploitable enough, obviously.

    http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/07/14/e...in-former/

Anyway, annoyingly, the article here doesn't say exactly WHICH Sierra games Rebellion now has. They mention a few -- Ground Control (series), Evil Genius, Empire Earth (series), and Lords of the Realm/ Lords of Magic (!!!!).

Ground Control and expansion, Evil Genius, Empire Earth: Gold Edition, and Lords of Magic are on http://www.gog.com now. However, they're actually charging for Ground Control, even though it was made freeware several years ago. That's not very nice... I guess their excuse is that they're including the expansion too, but still... why is the original game not available free there?

Anyway though, LoM is interesting, but I always thought it wasn't very good compared to LOTR 1 or 2... right from when I first played the demo, I was disappointed in comparison to the LOTR games. Of course, I own both of those, plus the expansion (LOTR3 doesn't count... :(), so I don't need those... but as for LoM, it's cool it's there I guess, Impressions was awesome, but yeah, I do prefer LOTR. I don't like things like how it's more RPG-ish so you can only control areas where your units actually are, etc. If it was just a more standard grand strategy game like LOTR 1 or 2 it'd be more fun, I think.

      Competitive Cycling and Doping
    Posted by: A Black Falcon - 12th July 2009, 7:47 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (5)

A very interesting article... if you didn't know how deeply ingrained doping is in European cycling, this article does a great job of explaining it. Interesting stuff... (Though I don't imagine that things are all that different in other sports, doping seems to have been/be an incredibly common thing few athletes seem to be able to keep away from the temptation of...)

      MechWarrior 5
    Posted by: A Black Falcon - 9th July 2009, 1:31 AM - Forum: Tendo City - Replies (3)

Yes, it's real! Stunning, amazing news, totally out of nowhere yesterday... but it's real, and some remnants of FASA are working on it.

Interview with key staff is up at IGN (read it!): http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/100/1002164p1.html

... Technically there's no number in the title, but there should be one, so I'm putting it in the thread title. I mean, it's a sequel. What's with this trend to drop numbers from sequels... but the AVGN covered that quite nicely recently in one of his videos, so I don't need to say more. :)

Anyway... the trailer, which is a blatant homage/ripoff of the classic MechWarrior 2 intro, in my opinion.

MechWarrior 5 trailer (full detail): http://ve3d.ign.com/videos/play/55194/PC...lash-Video

MechWarrior 2 intro for comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X3GD0UnBCk

... Yeah, amazingly awesome news. MechWarrior 2 is the best mech game ever, and MechWarrior 3 was great as well... but the mech sim genre and the related space sim genre have both been completely dead pretty much this whole decade in the West (and on the PC), so this is very awesome... hopefully they go sim! What we've seen so far looks very promising though for sure... and wow is that an awesome trailer. :)

      Vancouver 2010 Olympic Security Plans
    Posted by: Fittisize - 8th July 2009, 1:26 PM - Forum: Ramble City - Replies (46)

    Here's the link: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbi...areas.html

Quote:Olympic security officials have rolled out plans to create so-called free speech areas during the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, similar to the protest zones used in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

What does this even say about a democracy when the right to free speech is only guaranteed within certain designated areas? Assistant RCMP Commissioner weighed in on it, saying "anywhere you participate in lawful protest is legal and lawful in Canada. It doesn’t have to be in a free speech area." Then why even create "Free Speech Areas"? Is it because any protest taking place outside FSAs won't be considered "legal" and "lawful" for the duration of the Olympics?

Quote:The Integrated Security Unit will also monitor potential threats, using more than 900 closed-circuit cameras, which Mercer promised would be removed when the Olympics are over.

Potential threats convienently contained in the FSAs? Also, whether or not they'll actually be removed... we'll see about that.

Quote:Vancouver police will also monitor the movements of the city's homeless, some of whom will have to be moved in the interest of safety, said deputy chief Steve Sweeney.

"We currently have a few homeless that are residing within very close proximity to some of the venues. And those people, we will assist them in relocating elsewhere," said Sweeney.

Oh Jesus. All to create the illusion to the rest of the world that Vancouver is a clean and perfect city, free from poverty, homelessness, and danger. I hope that none of the tourists who visit during the Games don't accidentally find themselves in East Hastings, one of the worst and most notorious drug-markets in North America (think West Baltimore in The Wire), as well as being the first location in North America to start a needle-exchange program and the first place in North America to create a government-sanctioned, legally supervised area for narcotic injections (the wonderfully aptly named Insite). That'll shatter the illusion pretty damn quickly.

I love the Olympics. Every two years I'm glued to the TV whenever they're on. But I could do without all the bullshit that accompanies them. "Free speech area" my ass. I shouldn't have to be told where I'm allowed to excercise my Charter-guaranteed rights. And a memo to Vancouver: the alarming homeless rate will still exist in your city during the two weeks where you try to convince the world that it doesn't.

      Public Enemies
Posted by: alien space marine - 4th July 2009, 3:37 PM - Forum: Ramble City - No Replies

The film was good its the closest thing in style to a old school 1980's-90's crime flick, The only thing it lacked was subplots to give the supporting characters back stories, Everything was focused on the lead " John Dillinger ( Jonny Depp) " and his lover Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) .

Christian Bale is Christian Bale, Except instead of doing the Bat-growl this time around he was doing the "I'm from Dixie" George Bush impersonation.

My last complaint, Is the lack of nudity I wanted to see Marion Cotillard snatch and boobies in that sexy bathroom scene.
