No way, 98 was good for its time, but Vista is obviously far better...
You're right, a middle ground would be good, the security system is too restrictive to actually use, but that does leave you more open... kind of annoying. Still, it's not like security has ever been something Windows has done that well... though really MS doesn't do that badly. With how popular their OS is, everyone wants to crack it. I mean, I've always heard that it'd be MacOS that'd be the constantly broken into one, if Macs were the popular system instead of PCs... it's just a matter of success.
But anyway, all the complaints about Vista are even more absurd than the ones about ME. I mean, at least ME actually was less stable than 98, and actually did do one or two other annoying things (making it harder to get into pure DOS mode, most notably), though overall it was a fine OS. Vista's got nothing bad I can think of to say about it in comparison to XP. That "too much or too little" security issue there is about the only negative thing I can really think of to say about it.
Quote:That's one of Vista's major problems: You either have security which is far too paranoid and unintelligent, or you have none at all--which is even worse. This would make 7 less secure overall, but the best security is intelligent use. Only the most inexperienced computer users need to be reminded more than once that changing Windows settings or running certain executables can potentially screw things up if you don't know what you're doing.
