Isn't Ron Paul a registered Republican? I know he ran as a Libertarian in 1988, but afterwards he rejoined the Republican party and was running in the Republican primary in 2008. While third parties have virtually no chance of winning the presidency, a moderate Republican could. Unfortunately, those who vote in the Republican primaries are usually neo-cons voting for other neo-cons, and a neo-con becomes the major Republican candidate for president. More moderates should vote in the primary election to prevent the extremists from taking over.
