The Game Boys have always done well, but THIS kind of domination? Pushing the major consoles out of sight? I don't think so... it's extremely impressive for Nintendo, to say the least... they get their strongest handheld competition probably ever and respond with what is becoming the most successful console in Japan? Uh, wow?
And they've done it by attracting casual gamers and nongamers... with products designed for people who don't play games... and it WORKED! ... obviously Nintendo's marketing division isn't nearly as incompetent in Japan as it is over here? :) But really, it is doing pretty well in the US and Europe too... there just isn't this kind of market domination going on. The DS is just winning the handheld war... and not by as much as it is in Japan... it isn't doing what it is there yet. Animal Crossing and Nintendogs have been big for attracting casual gamers, but it'll be very interesting to see how well Brain Training does here; it's clearly a massive success there, with three Brain Training titles in the top 10... Simslike numbers, those! :)
