Nuts... They went and made a better version of MGS3... I wish they'd just sell the extras as an update you can buy for some low "extra content" price... Oh wait, we aren't in the next generation yet :D.

Oh well, I guess I'll be selling MGS3 QUICKLY before any of the stores find out this info and mark down their buying prices and prepair to get this ultimate version.

Metal Gear 1 and 2... MSX ports? Cool... not like the new games, but a nice little bonus.

DJ doesn't like improved versions of games he already has to be announced after he bought the original game.

I only buy stuff like that if I feel that there are enough new features to warrent a second purchase of the game. In this case it may be enough.

IT's enough for me because there are TWO NEW GAMES, well, new to me, that I never played before RIGHT IN THERE.

It's just annoying, that's all. Well, I got the game as a present, but you know how it is :D. It's always been an annoyance, but oh well, it really is a better version and all...

Here's the deal though, in the future with all the systems (hopefully) having a massive storage medium in from launch, this sort of upgrade SHOULD be a thing of the past. What I see is new content like this being released as a content drop, much like what the XBox is already doing with Splinter Cell, and what PC games already do to an extent these days. So, pretty much all games would just have the proper "hooks" and an update option and you can just download the extra content for a small fee, like $10. That's something I couldn't complain about at all.

There are actual gameplay changes, though. Might not be possible to simple patch.

Nope. DJ, it's called "money". Companies want it. Making you re-buy a game you already own is one of the simplest ways possible to make it. And thus, such things happen.

Now, it is true that harddrives allow for additions... but, looking at PC games, that's more the exception than the rule. Occasionally patches add new things, but usually it's just bugfixes or minor additions...

Yeah, but they CAN add new content, and Konami likes to do that it seems (Square-Enix does too, but generally those updated versions of games are kept in Japan).

Anyway, remaking old games in the same generation is rare even on consoles, like to 2 or 3 companies, so I would figure the idea of a content patch would actually be appealing. By that I mean they get more money out of the people who are frugal enough NOT to spend money on a new version of a game just for the extra content. This way people realize they are just paying for the extra content.

And yeah, these whole games wouldn't be the sort of thing a patch would do, normally. It's a lot. But, they could be downloaded as standalone exacutables.

It's not a remake, it's a super deluxe version of the game with all-new gameplay modes.
