Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

It's official, Hideo can't escape from the word "solid", new Metal Gear games will NEVER be JUST Metal Gear again :D.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

AND MGS3: Subsistence, which will feature a new behind-the-character camera AND FRIGGIN METAL GEARS 1 AND 2 HOLY SHIT THIS IS SO AWESOME.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Great Rumbler - 17th May 2005

That's more Metal Gear than I've ever seen before!

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Private Hudson - 17th May 2005

Metal Gear Acid.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

Nuts... They went and made a better version of MGS3... I wish they'd just sell the extras as an update you can buy for some low "extra content" price... Oh wait, we aren't in the next generation yet :D.

Oh well, I guess I'll be selling MGS3 QUICKLY before any of the stores find out this info and mark down their buying prices and prepair to get this ultimate version.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - A Black Falcon - 17th May 2005

Metal Gear 1 and 2... MSX ports? Cool... not like the new games, but a nice little bonus.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

YES! The games we never got here! I don't know how DJ can complain about that.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - A Black Falcon - 17th May 2005

DJ doesn't like improved versions of games he already has to be announced after he bought the original game.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

Well this is a super deluxe awesome edition. She doesn't have to get it...

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Great Rumbler - 17th May 2005

I only buy stuff like that if I feel that there are enough new features to warrent a second purchase of the game. In this case it may be enough.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

Dude it's friggin Metal Gear (MSX) and the never-released-in-the-US Metal Gear 2. You HAVE to get it.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

IT's enough for me because there are TWO NEW GAMES, well, new to me, that I never played before RIGHT IN THERE.

It's just annoying, that's all. Well, I got the game as a present, but you know how it is :D. It's always been an annoyance, but oh well, it really is a better version and all...

Here's the deal though, in the future with all the systems (hopefully) having a massive storage medium in from launch, this sort of upgrade SHOULD be a thing of the past. What I see is new content like this being released as a content drop, much like what the XBox is already doing with Splinter Cell, and what PC games already do to an extent these days. So, pretty much all games would just have the proper "hooks" and an update option and you can just download the extra content for a small fee, like $10. That's something I couldn't complain about at all.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

There are actual gameplay changes, though. Might not be possible to simple patch.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - A Black Falcon - 17th May 2005

Nope. DJ, it's called "money". Companies want it. Making you re-buy a game you already own is one of the simplest ways possible to make it. And thus, such things happen.

Now, it is true that harddrives allow for additions... but, looking at PC games, that's more the exception than the rule. Occasionally patches add new things, but usually it's just bugfixes or minor additions...

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

Yeah, but they CAN add new content, and Konami likes to do that it seems (Square-Enix does too, but generally those updated versions of games are kept in Japan).

Anyway, remaking old games in the same generation is rare even on consoles, like to 2 or 3 companies, so I would figure the idea of a content patch would actually be appealing. By that I mean they get more money out of the people who are frugal enough NOT to spend money on a new version of a game just for the extra content. This way people realize they are just paying for the extra content.

And yeah, these whole games wouldn't be the sort of thing a patch would do, normally. It's a lot. But, they could be downloaded as standalone exacutables.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

It's not a remake, it's a super deluxe version of the game with all-new gameplay modes.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

You know what I mean. Ignore the semantics.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - OB1 - 17th May 2005

...

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Weltall - 17th May 2005

Boy, am I glad I waited! :D

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 17th May 2005

Don't rub it in!

...

But hey, you didn't wait for the deluxe Silent Hill 2 now DID you? I win that one!

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Great Rumbler - 17th May 2005

Win?

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Weltall - 17th May 2005

I didn't, but I love Silent Hill so much that I'm thrilled to own both versions... and the PC version too, just because :D

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Dark Jaguar - 18th May 2005

If you were a real fan you'd also own the XBox version...

um... yeah
