Hear the latest from Aunuma? The Revolution isn't necessarially a replacement for Gamecube. Um, why does Nintendo keep saying things like this... it's pretty strange. I'm sure he has some point, but the way they say it it just comes out weird... similar for the DS-GBA.

Yeah that's kind of strange that they'd say that, but they also said that the GC successor would be out no later than the PS3 and XB2 launch, and I doubt they'd release some fourth pillar and the N5 at the same time. I think Nintendo is just saying this because even though the Revolution is the next Nintendo console, it will be so revolutionary that to even call it a GC successor would be blasphemy. Something stupid like that.

I equate this and the "DS won't replace GBA (though I think that one has more validity...)" with their "GC isn't competing with PS2 and X-Box" line. Pure marketing, and stupid marketing at that.

This news is from before June. It's actually closer to three weeks old. Even Nintendorks reported on it.

Nintendo has started to leak little bits of information about its next console in much the same way a girl might leak pee pee when she's driving down the interstate with an empty Big Gulp next to her and the nearest rest stop still 19 miles away. The Big N has stated that the "Revolution" will not be a successor to the GameCube. As Nintendo Senior Managing Director Extraordinaire Yoshiro Mori told some analysts recently, "This won't be a continuation, but rather something entirely different."

This is all part of Nintendo's plan to forgo the usual hardware sequels and instead create a series of pillars, each used to support the massive weight of Reggie Fils-Aime's testicles.

Revolution not replacing GameCube?
Nintendo's president avoids labeling its next-generation machine as the successor to the GameCube.

TOKYO--According to the Yomiuri Journal, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata avoided making concrete statements as to whether its next-generation game console, code-named "Revolution," will be the successor to the GameCube in his company’s strategy conference last week.

"A 'successor' is really just an issue about wording. Whether the Revolution is or isn't the successor to the GameCube isn't too important, but we can't say anything about that subject today," stated Iwata during the press conference.

The Yomiuri Journal goes on to say that Iwata hinted that the Revolution will not be replacing the GameCube once the machine hits the store shelves. Nintendo made a similar statement earlier this year when it said the DS is not the successor to the Game Boy Advance, even though the DS will play GBA games.

June 14, 2004 - Gamesindustry.biz (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_pag...t&aid=3606)reported today that Nintendo intends to continue GameCube support well into the next generation of consoles, including Nintendo's upcoming "Revolution" next-generation console.

Commenting in the Yomiuri Shimbun, one of the leading Japanese newspapers, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said he expects GameCube to sell alongside "Revolution" for quite some time, anticipating a success similar to what Sony saw with the PSone during the PlayStation 2's ascent.

However, as Gamesindustry points out, the comments do not clarify whether this long-term support of the GameCube means ongoing software development, or simply continuing production of the Cube hardware to meet market demand.

I went to the trouble of "posting" those two "articles" in the expectation that you would "read" them. Obviously you did not. So you made yet another post that is wrong because you didn't pay enough attention.

Uh, no. Unless Yoshiro Mori is actually Satoru Iwata, and 'some analysts' that Japanese industry paper? I don't think so either. They aren't the exact same news item! Making similar points, sure, but it's not the same news item. Those two were, if you actaully read them, talking about a article in a recent Japanese paper... the Nintendorks article is talking about something else. It's not the same news. It's similar news (and also similar to what Nintendo said at E3 actually), but from a different person at a different time.

And let's look at their comments.

Had Nintendo stated before that they planned the GameCube to sell alongside to the Revolution? That's news to me. That means they make continue to make GameCube games for a longer time than if they planned the Revolution to replace the GameCube.

PS: Who fucking cares if the articles aren't that different? Both of you just like to argue with each other. I can imagine each of you sitting with your face inches away from the computer monitor, left-handedly typing pointless insults with the other hand down your pants.
