Nintendo's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Reginald Fils-Aime, has been a hot topic among Nintendo fans this week following his presence at Nintendo's press conference and the now semi-famous opening line above. So hot a topic is Fils-Amie that the upcoming Revolution from Nintendo has been nicknamed the Reggie-lution, with even IGN Cube having a news story about Fils-Aime. Reggie Fils-Aime (pronounced FEES-oe-MEY) joined Nintendo of America Inc. in December 2003. Fils-Aime is responsible for all sales and marketing activities for Nintendo in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Nintendo products include Nintendo GameCube™, Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo DS, as well as software and peripherals.

Prior to joining the company, Fils-Aime most recently was senior vice president of marketing at VH1, part of the MTV networks.

A graduate of Cornell University, Fils-Aime began his career at Procter & Gamble, and later became senior vice president for Panda Management Co., the world's leading Chinese food-service company. He also served as senior director for national marketing at Pizza Hut, where he launched the Bigfoot Pizza.

As U.S. marketing chief for Guinness Import Co., Fils-Aime oversaw all brands, including Guinness stout, Bass ale, Harp lager and Pilsner Urquell, as well as managing brand relationships with third-party owners in the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the Czech Republic. As chief marketing officer for Derby Cycle Corp., he not only directed worldwide sales and marketing for eight separate brands, including Raleigh, Diamondback and Univega, but also was acting managing director of the company's United Kingdom operations.

During his tenure at VH1, Fils-Aime engineered the channel's redirection to young viewers that resulted in an overall 30 percent rating growth, and he created and executed the marketing plans for The Concert for New York City, which raised more than $35 million for disaster relief in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Fils-Aime's professional awards include a Clio, two Gold EFFIEs, an AICP award for advertising excellence and a Silver Edison from the American Marketing Institute. He also was named to the "Marketing 100" by Advertising Age in 1998.

Good for Nintendo, but honestly I have a feeling I'm going to personally despise the upcoming advertising blitz, assuming this guy gets the money he needs to actual do a blitz. I won't be the sort the blitz is aimed at, nor will most of you. It's those who DON'T have a brain that these advertisments will focus on. Oh well, I can't fault them for wanting to change their image in the US, and I figure this will work just as they want it to.

Well I'm using Netscape and hear nothing, so I guess so... :)

But my install of Netscape has never been able to play music embedded into web pages. Not exactly a big loss, so I've never really tried to fix it.

Exactly, sorry to say this ABF, but whether you like it or not, web pages are designed with IE in mind first, only THEN will they... ignore Netscape. Mozilla may be a nice rendering engine, but it doesn't mean a thing if no one uses it. The thing is, there are too many things it either does differently or isn't able to do. I'm sure there's things it can do over ie, likely a lot, but that's a moot point if no one designes anything for it. An online standard code is sorta a must, and that's the one everyone has agreed upon. I will say this, when the HTML standard is owned by a company, it's not good in the long run. An open source standard would be better, but good luck getting one adopted by the masses.

Netscape is a good program, but IE is the industry standard and almost everything single website out there will work perfectly with it.

As I said, I'm sure that many people using Mozilla can hear webpage sound. Unless it's a .ASP page, but that's relatively rare... no, it's not some intrinsic flaw in Mozilla. It's just me and my not caring about trying to fix it.

Yes, it can. The page is coded for IE's specific method though, using the BGSOUND tag, which apparently mozilla doesn't support. Anyway, there ARE codes that will work in BOTH, and to be honest, that's what they should have done here, but they didn't, choosing the IE thing. A chunk of pages do that.

My point is that NO pages with sound embedded work on my system... not just this specific one. Including ones I seem to remember that worked on previous versions of Netscape, like, oh, Tendo City? :)

Ah nuts, my various embedded sound files have all gone for naught! TC, if you don't know, doesn't really have any specific command for adding sound... that I'm aware of. So, I've just been using whatever sound embed tag I feel like. In other words, some of them could work, while others don't, all because different files are embeded with different code.

Try http://www.avantbrowser.com/ for a while. It's basically just a shell for what your system already has, IE. Make sure you activate sounds and such in the tools drop down box. It basically adds all that stuff you like about Netscape, except for it using IE. It's only like 2 megabytes total. It's got the whole multiple document interface you love so much, as well as two buttons you can use to turn off pop-ups and flash animation whenever you like. Also a button for pictures, but honestly only GR would find that useful.

Oh, by "previous versions of Netscape" what I really meant was "on other computers". :)

I'm not sure if they work in IE on my comp either, actually...

Oh, and if you think I'll use IE again (for anything other than a site that will not work at all in Netscape -- and generally that's a site I won't be back to) you are insane.

I have no idea, because IE is stupid. Microsoft makes mediocre programs at best and IE is no exception. Even if it ran better and stuff I'd still use Netscape if just because the interface is so much nicer... IE is so ugly...

And of course not using a Microsoft program is always good.

I use Mozilla, because IE is less stable and it is rife with popups. I NEVER see popups with Mozilla. I would never switch back.

And here's the kicker: Without doing anything out of the ordinary or out of my way, I hear the music on that site perfectly fine with Mozilla.
