.. horrid ... trees? ... huh, I think the trees in WC3/WOW are one of the best features! None of those idiotic 'crossed poly' trees like in most games, even more recent ones... I really like them.

And yes, comparing it to the N64 is incredibly, incredibly stupid.

And again this doesn't exactly have Far Cry's super-super-high system requirements! And I'd call that mostly a good thing. (though it isn't something that is really debatable because Blizzard wouldn't make it so high-tech that it wouldn't run on a midrange system...)

Stupid, I'm not saying that the game looks like an N64 game. Ever heard anyone say "McDonald's tastes like SHIT compared to THIS restaurant!" before? Does it mean that McDonald's food actually tastes like fecal matter? No. Well, not quite.

And the trees suck. ICO's trees beat the hell out of those trees. With a bat.

I like the trees... They look very organic...

The game is fun and has side stories at every corner, It may not have fancy graphics but it does have somthing they dont have,Imagination and brilliance.

Yup, I agree with that, like I've said during this entire thread. The art is nice, but the technical side of the graphics are poo.

And you must have some very unnatrual trees in Oklahoma if you think those trees look very organic, DJ. :p

The trees are great. They look like Azeroth Trees should... cartoonish and not exactly 'right' in proportion but perfect for the world and more, well 'treelike' than many game trees... honestly, in so many games trees look so terrible...

Yes, and WoW is no exception. ICO has great trees though. You have to see them in motion, each individual set of leaves swaying in the wind with the sunlight glistening off of their shiny surface. Best game trees ever.

Well I think WC3 (and by proxy WoW) are exceptions. :)

... and as for game trees, how about Far Cry?

Far Cry's trees are alright. The foliage is a lot better.

Wow, this sounds incredibly retarded. Apparently you're going to have to rest for several hours after you fight people in WoW, so while that character is resting you'll have to start playing as another character if you want to continue playing the game. WoW, how incredibly dumb.

    Quote:Rest State

    * The Rest state modifier only affects experience earned from killing monsters. It does not affect experience earned from quest rewards or other experience rewards in the game (such as future PvP experience rewards).

    * As players kill monsters and gain experience points, they become increasingly tired. Their rest level reflects this tiredness in five tiers: well rested, rested, normal, fatigued and exhausted.

    * Well-rested players receive bonus experience points for killing monsters. Rested players receive a smaller bonus. At the normal rest level, players receive no bonus experience points for killing monsters. Fatigued players receive half of the normal experience points from their kills, and when exhausted they will receive a quarter of normal experience from a kill.

    * To become well rested and start earning bonus experience from killing monsters again, players must either log out or rest online at an Inn (see below) for several hours.

    * Thanks to the comforts of a warm bed and a hearty meal, players who rest or log out at an Inn can regain energy up to the maximum level: well rested (it takes 8 hours to go from exhausted back to well rested). Players who log out anywhere else in the world will only regain energy up to the normal level.

    * Note that while your character is resting at an Inn, you can play other characters on your account. The rest state is per character only.

I think it's a great system to prevent people from just staying up all night becoming demi-gods while everyone else is level retarded. It's the method of "resting" that's flawed. I think simply "not fighting" should be the trick to returning to a rested state rather than having to stop playing completely. In essence, simply get people to take time out from monster slaying to enjoy the other aspects of the game llike perhaps some sort of economy or crafting or anything of the sort that might also be in the game. Also, it's not like you don't earn ANY experience after a certain point, so you could just stay there.

There are always going to be people much better than you in a MMORPG, so all this does it slows things down slightly and make it very annoying for the player.

Only very annoying for the player who's trying to completely dominate everyone else.

For the others who don't have that kind of time, this evens the field. I'm all in favor of making it annoying to be a bastard.

They'll still play everyday and become better than you. Forcing a player to rest for several hours in a game is ridiculous.

    THANK YOU.

If these two would take the time to remove their lips from Blizzard's ass they'd see that this is a really dumb idea.

It looks like an attempt to slow down people from maxing out levels, and why is that so bad? Blizzard wants a balanced game...

Oh, and if you know ANYTHING about Blizzard you know that they'll be patching it constantly, and making significant gameplay alterations probably for years. It'll get balanced.

Just keep in mind the casual gamer will get a lot more experience from individual battles, so those battling non-stop will find the people who only play now and then will somehow be catching up. There's nothing wrong with that. As I said, I see problems with the system. "Resting" should ONLY involve not fighting, not having to actually go to an inn. Allow the person to eventually get to a rested status while going about the other business in the world. It really is a nice thing for this sort of game, if done PROPERLY.

I'm just saying I like it is all, yeesh OB1 what's your deal?

GR, ya know I gotta say sometimes I wonder if you're just OB1 in disguise... sometimes...

Also, Penny Arcade has their own take on the "issue".

It's dumb to force people to spend hours at an inn just because they play more than other people.

I usually agree with PA on matters, but this time I don't. Sure it's Blizzard's game and they can do whatever they want with it, but it doesn't mean that people have to be happy with it. For instance, in the game that I'm making right now I could force the character to sleep for five minutes every ten minutes, and I'd have every right to do it. But I'd also be an ass for doing so.

I already DID say making people wait in inns is a bad idea. Like I said, the execution is flawed, but the concept is sound. Punish people for being nerds :D.

I don't know if its balanced yet, but as I said, it will be. Blizz doesn't leave its games imbalanced and changes lots of things in their patches, far beyond what just about anyone else does...

For example, the massive WC3 patch I'm currently beta testing. Didn't need to sign up or anything, so it's nothing special. However, those with high ladder scores win an access code for World of Warcraft beta.

I hate it when games are released with huge bugs or really awful gameplay ideas and need tons of patches to get fixed.

Yeah! And good thing that Blizzard ships its games with very few bugs, generally, and cleans up all the ones worth mentioning very quickly then spends the rest of their patches on what they should be for, BALANCE CHANGES!

Yeah, which is why public beta testing is a good thing. The cynical side of me says "Wow, someone got smart. Why PAY people to test games when you can trick people into thinking it's a generous GIFT to make them do the job for FREE?" The gamer side says "Big deal, so it's somewhat manipulative, we get to test the game and suggest changes based on OUR opinions!". Generally, if my cynical side ever goes against my gamer side, gamer always wins. I tip my hat to blizzard for finding a way to actually cut costs by doing something great for the people. Besides, the more people testing, the more bugs are found. When it comes to balance though, usually that's something that, no matter the testing, issues will always come up. Let's face it, every fighting game has some imbalance issues, hence the 3 billioin versions of the same game. Better to have those issues fixed via a patch than a brand new game.
