I'm so friggin' excited about Twilight Samurai getting the nom for best foreign picture. That was one of the best movies I saw all year.

And City of God got four nominations which is just so awesome. It couldn't be nominated for best picture or best foreign picture this year since it's technically a 2002 movie, but for some reason it was able to get other nominations. I hope it wins them all because it definitely deserves it. By far the best movie of the past several years. The DVD should be coming out soon so I highly suggest everyone here rent it.

It's also nice to see Johnny Depp get a nomination for his role in Pirates, even though it's a big popcorn flick. But he really does deserve that best acting nomination for it.

And of course, I'm so happy that Bill Murray has been nominated for best actor as well. He's the man.

I still disagree with a lot of the choices but ah well, it's a bit better than last year's picks. I'm sure that Rings will win just about everything, though.

I'm torn between whether I want Billy Murray or Johnny Depp to win Best Actor; they were both awesome in their respective movies. Sean Penn was pretty good in Mystic River as well. I don't watch as many foreign films so I don't know about the films you were talking about, but I think most of the other nominations were surprisingly good for the Academy.

Of all the nominated movies, I've seen LOTR ROTK, Master and Commander, Cold Mountain, Pirates of the Carribean, and Finding Nemo. :)

And yes, Johnny Depp deserved the nomination for Pirates of the Carribean. He was very, very good in that movie...

It's a pretty good list, but Millenium Actress not getting a nomination for animated picture is a dissapointment. That was a very good movie.

It's good to see that Lord of the Rings got a lot of nominations, hopefully it'll win best picture or at least best director [or maybe both].

Yeah, they chose Brother Bear over Millenium Actress? WTF?

Fernando Meirelles deserves the best director award for City of God. That movie needs more attention.

Jurrassic Park sounds like a bad action movie and I don't have much interest... I do want to see Independance Day, though...

And I think seeing five new movies in a year is a lot for me. :)

I figured that if Millenium Actress got nominated it would at least be a close race [although I figured that Finding Nemo would win anyway], but now there's almost no chance of Finding Nemo losing.

Jurrasic park 1-2 were good! The third one kind of sucked.

Independance day was a classic and one last movies that scared me and left me with some feeling.

You think Jurassic Park sounds like a bad action movie, but you want to see Independence Day? :hmm:

Please, please, see Jurassic Park. The first one was really, really good and is far from a bad action movie. You don't have to bother with the sequels, though, as they were mediocre at best.

I found that Jurassic park 2 was the best!I laughed my ass off when Trex stormed through the city.

The only reason the first one is so great is that all the characters like Docter Grant and Malcolm were in the same movie as the next two sequeils they were seperated.

The original Jurassic Park was great because it was something totally new and the actors fit their roles perfectly even if they weren't the best actors, if you get what I mean. In JP2 Jeff Goldblum did not work playing the leading role. His character was much better suited for the supporting role he played in the first movie. I understand they were following the book, but they even screwed that up because the book was much better. I did like the T-Rex scene, though. :)

Yes, but the T-Rex was a cool addition anyway. I did miss seeing those camouflaging dinosaurs that were in the book, though.

If you look at the people that were nominated, no one in RotK really stood up to them. It was a team effort.

Oh and because of all of these City of God noms, the DVD has been delayed from next month to June because Columbia wants to do another theatrical run. If it plays in your area, go see it! I promise you that you won't have seen a better movie in ages.
