I'm so friggin' excited about Twilight Samurai getting the nom for best foreign picture. That was one of the best movies I saw all year.

And City of God got four nominations which is just so awesome. It couldn't be nominated for best picture or best foreign picture this year since it's technically a 2002 movie, but for some reason it was able to get other nominations. I hope it wins them all because it definitely deserves it. By far the best movie of the past several years. The DVD should be coming out soon so I highly suggest everyone here rent it.

It's also nice to see Johnny Depp get a nomination for his role in Pirates, even though it's a big popcorn flick. But he really does deserve that best acting nomination for it.

And of course, I'm so happy that Bill Murray has been nominated for best actor as well. He's the man.

I still disagree with a lot of the choices but ah well, it's a bit better than last year's picks. I'm sure that Rings will win just about everything, though.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 27th January 2004

And it will deserve it. :)

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - The Former DMiller - 27th January 2004

I'm torn between whether I want Billy Murray or Johnny Depp to win Best Actor; they were both awesome in their respective movies. Sean Penn was pretty good in Mystic River as well. I don't watch as many foreign films so I don't know about the films you were talking about, but I think most of the other nominations were surprisingly good for the Academy.

A Black Falcon Wrote:And it will deserve it. :)

If you saw City of God you probably wouldn't think that. :)

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 27th January 2004

Of all the nominated movies, I've seen LOTR ROTK, Master and Commander, Cold Mountain, Pirates of the Carribean, and Finding Nemo. :)

And yes, Johnny Depp deserved the nomination for Pirates of the Carribean. He was very, very good in that movie...

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Great Rumbler - 27th January 2004

It's a pretty good list, but Millenium Actress not getting a nomination for animated picture is a dissapointment. That was a very good movie.

It's good to see that Lord of the Rings got a lot of nominations, hopefully it'll win best picture or at least best director [or maybe both].

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - The Former DMiller - 27th January 2004

ABF, for someone who admitted he doesn't watch many movies, and you hadn't even seen Jurassic Park, you are not allowed an opinion. ;)

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 27th January 2004

Yeah, they chose Brother Bear over Millenium Actress? WTF?

Fernando Meirelles deserves the best director award for City of God. That movie needs more attention.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - alien space marine - 27th January 2004

I bet 20 $ lord of the rings wins atleast one Oscar.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 27th January 2004

Jurrassic Park sounds like a bad action movie and I don't have much interest... I do want to see Independance Day, though...

And I think seeing five new movies in a year is a lot for me. :)

Rolleyes

Quote:Yeah, they chose Brother Bear over Millenium Actress? WTF?

I figured that if Millenium Actress got nominated it would at least be a close race [although I figured that Finding Nemo would win anyway], but now there's almost no chance of Finding Nemo losing.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 27th January 2004

Jurrasic Park is about a hundred times better than Independance Day.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Great Rumbler - 27th January 2004

I think they're both good movies.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - alien space marine - 27th January 2004

Jurrasic park 1-2 were good! The third one kind of sucked.

Independance day was a classic and one last movies that scared me and left me with some feeling.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 27th January 2004

JP 2 was pretty crappy, I thought.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - The Former DMiller - 27th January 2004

You think Jurassic Park sounds like a bad action movie, but you want to see Independence Day? :hmm:

Please, please, see Jurassic Park. The first one was really, really good and is far from a bad action movie. You don't have to bother with the sequels, though, as they were mediocre at best.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 27th January 2004

ID4 doesn't sound great, but I like sci-fi, definitely more than I like dinosaurs...

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - alien space marine - 27th January 2004

I found that Jurassic park 2 was the best!I laughed my ass off when Trex stormed through the city.

The only reason the first one is so great is that all the characters like Docter Grant and Malcolm were in the same movie as the next two sequeils they were seperated.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Fittisize - 27th January 2004

Man, where the FUCK are the two Matrix movies for best special effects?

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 27th January 2004

The Academy always screws up with technical awards.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - The Former DMiller - 27th January 2004

The original Jurassic Park was great because it was something totally new and the actors fit their roles perfectly even if they weren't the best actors, if you get what I mean. In JP2 Jeff Goldblum did not work playing the leading role. His character was much better suited for the supporting role he played in the first movie. I understand they were following the book, but they even screwed that up because the book was much better. I did like the T-Rex scene, though. :)

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Fittisize - 27th January 2004

In the book there was not T-Rex in whatever city, though. The book was way better.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - The Former DMiller - 27th January 2004

Yes, but the T-Rex was a cool addition anyway. I did miss seeing those camouflaging dinosaurs that were in the book, though.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Laser Link - 29th January 2004

Quote:ABF, for someone who admitted he doesn't watch many movies, and you hadn't even seen Jurassic Park, you are not allowed an opinion.

I think that means I don't get an opinion either.

Oh well. Return of the King all the way!

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 29th January 2004

ROTK was robbed... no acting nominations...

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Fittisize - 30th January 2004

There's way too many actors though. No official *leading* actor, and way too many supporting.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 30th January 2004

Sam at least should have been in for supporting...

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Fittisize - 30th January 2004

...But then the twenty-eight others would be overlooked. Which wouldn't be fair.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 30th January 2004

If you look at the people that were nominated, no one in RotK really stood up to them. It was a team effort.

Oh and because of all of these City of God noms, the DVD has been delayed from next month to June because Columbia wants to do another theatrical run. If it plays in your area, go see it! I promise you that you won't have seen a better movie in ages.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - Fittisize - 31st January 2004

If I see it and it's not as good as you've been saying (and have said about 59 times) then you're a little bitch.

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - A Black Falcon - 31st January 2004

It might be, it might not be. All you really know is OB1 loved it. :)

Wow, some actual decent nominations this year - OB1 - 31st January 2004

Well if you don't want to take my word for it, how are 119 excellent reviews for ya?
