Ah okay, I was under the impression you played it. I was also aware from the start that that was simply a funny way of putting it, and I made a joke off of that. I'm not saying it was funny though.

No matter, at any rate what's the general opinion on it? Any good?

No, I never owned a Saturn so I've only played a few games on that system. I even own a copy of NiGHTs but have never played the game. Lol Don't ask why.

But yes, the game got good reviews.

You don't have a Genesis?! What the heck's wrong with you?!

You do realize that you could probably get a Genesis and all of the Sonic games for less than $40?

Well, there are ways to get it, that is, a better version...

    PS1? ... I don't really want a Playstation... and anyway, it'd be pretty stupid to buy a PS1 when PS2 plays all of its games. And I can't afford a PS2.

If I ever get a Playstation (2, 3, whatever) I want the remakes, but I'm in no hurry to do that.

    Well okay then...

How about the GBA remake? ... Wait, I know they remade the first one, but did they ever port the second one to GBA?

Alright here's the thing. From what I understand, the original version has something the remakes don't, random encounters. I'm just trying to spare you one of your pet peeves.

    I have Lunar 1 for GBA. :)

It's not as good as the PS1 version supposedly is (no speech, no CG, random battles (yes, after the PS1 version removed them, they were put back in for the GBA... probably the only things that got me to the end of that game were Save Anywhere (a GREAT feature and one every RPG should have!) the fact that it's only 20-25 hours long, that it has 'Auto' so you can have the battle autofight (saving plenty of time choosing attacks... just bring a book!, and FAQs to deal with some of the more annoying dungeons (stupid mazes...)), and a lame 'normal japanese rpg two lines of characters' combat system (the Lunar system, where the characters actually have to move around and have attack ranges and all that, is so much better...)...), and very different from the Sega CD version. Really, what it is is a remix of the PS1 game which is a remix of the GBA one. It's got the PS1's story, mostly (I haven't played it for PS1 and barely for SCD so I can't compare the stories of the two versions, but supposedly the PS1 game added characters, changed pacing, etc, etc... a bunch of alterations. Then the GBA version changed it even more. Random battles are back in, the combat system is 'two lines', and the overworld... well, the overworld is kind of gone. See, instead of moving around an overworld, you have maps which you choose locations to travel on, and you go there. Only the areas themselves are explorable. (This isn't bad though -- the game is still long enough, and it saves plenty of tedium, especially because there are no fights when travelling between locations...). A good game, certainly, and worth the money ($15 that is...), but no replacement for either of the previous versions. PS1 for the 'best' version and SCD for the original one (which is quite different from the PS1 version... Eternal Blue for PS1 is supposedly more like the original title.)

Oh, and they never remade Eternal Blue for GBA. There is an upcoming game 'Lunar Genesis' for DS, but that sounds like it might actually be a new game...

Anyway, I don't know if I'd want Lunar 1 for Sega CD. Perhaps, but not before other games. I've played a version of Lunar 1, after all... but the second game, yes, I want that one. :)

... oh yeah, does Lunar: The Silver Star for Sega CD have Save Anywhere like Lunar: Eternal Blue and all of the various Lunar remakes (of both titles) have? I'm not sure about that one...

Oh yeah, and Lunar 1 for GBA is also fairly easy. Easier, supposedly, than the previous versions of the game... oh well.

My sister took the Genesis with her when she moved out of the house. :(

The only Sonic game we had for it was Sonic 1 though. I now have that and several other Sonic games for my Gamecube courtesy of SMC. :D

Sonic 1 is HARD! I went back and played it recently and I could barely get to the third level without getting a gameover!!

Quote:Well, there are ways to get it, that is, a better version...

The new version would likely cost more, plus nothing beats having the original version. I have Chrono Trigger on the PS1 but I would gladly forfeit it along with some amount of money in a heartbeat for the original SNES version.

Yes, the PS1 version is definitely more expensive, and as you say, there's nothing like an original... it may be "better", but it isn't necessarially more worth owning. :)

Such as Link's Awakening... I'd rather have the b&w one that I have, if I had to choose a version.

I got it on eBay for $77 (that includes shipping) a few months before it was announced that it would be rereleased on PSX. If I had just waited a little while, the demand for Chrono Trigger would've been down and I would've been able to get it cheaper. :(

I bought it brand new for $100... This was when games were EXPENSIVE AS HELL.

But anyway, nah, I really don't care about having the actual original CART or anything, so long as the version I get has the original game on it somewheres. PS1 does, but the main problem there is that the US version has horrific load times. That alone is reason enough for me to always keep my SNES version. HOWEVER, if it had perfect load times and no slow down, I would NOT have a reason to keep it.

Actually, go to ebay. Chrono Trigger SNES still sells for that much... at least... it doesn't seem to have gone down in price much since the PS1 version came out.

I already have both FFChronicles and a PS2, and plus, I already said that I prefer the SNES version because the PS1 version, the US one anyway, suffers some serious slowdown.

    No dice!

Aw man, I looked for a cheap Buy It Now of Chrono Trigger on eBay back in 2001 but I couldn't find one that cheap. :(

Yes GR, I am fully aware of that feature. But, it is not an absolute I'm afraid. Increase disk speed does not equal infinite disk speed. As an aside, I certainly wish they had set the system up to REMEMBER your last settings. It's just a little annoying having to set it to fast disk speed or smooth texturing EVERY TIME I turn on the system. Sure, I'll need to alter them depending on the game I play, but I usually stick with a game for a while before putting a different one in.

Anyway, yes, fast loading, as I've said many times before, makes the load times in Chrono Trigger BEARABLE, but it does not eliminate them (as it does for Final Fantasy 5). They are still there, and they are still annoying. It's just that the game is at least playable with it on.

Oh yeah, the PS1 version has the ROM built right in. As I discussed with OB1 a while back, I'm pretty sure the fact that the US version is using the Japanese ROM as it's base is the source of all the load issues. I believe needing to patch all the text (meaning it has to first spin the disk to the ROM and then spin it to the part with the patch, it's basically the spinning and scanning that's taking up the time rather than actually applying it) is the problem. I am not CERTAIN of this by any means, it's just a hypothesis I think is worth testing. Unfortunatly, we really can't test it due to lacking a number of things, for example, the original Japanese version of the PS1 version of the game.

I played Sonic 3 recently. Very fun, but then I got to that carnival place, Act 2... I can never get past that one thing that spins and you have to bounce it up and down until it gets out of your way. Is there some kind of trick to do it more easily?

Haha, I got stuck there too.

The trick is actually simple as PIE.

Stop jumping :D. Just press up and down on the direction pad to build up height until it's high enough, THEN jump off.

Sonic 1... never that hard to me... I played it recently too, and can make it through the game easily enough. The only tough part is getting all the chaos emeralds. Those stages don't leave much room for error.
