I'm pretty sure YOU're wrong. I have loved and adored James Bond since I was in 5th grade. I know the first fifteen or sixteen movies almost line by line. I have most of the original Ian Fleming novels and I have read them. I know them inside and out. I am certainly entitled to my opinion, and that is:
1.) James Bond is a COLD WAR ERA SPY. In Reboot, he is POST-COLD WAR. Judy Dench even makes a point of saying to him that he WAS NOT AROUND DURING THE COLD WAR.
2.) He is no longer a spy. He is now just a gun-toting madman who rushes around avenging bitches he plowed and blowing things up.
3.) Whereas while they changed Bond actors several times, the Bond universe remained the same: actors/tressess like Lois Maxwell, Desmond Llewellyn, Bernard Lee, kept the series all united in a continuum... nobody could keep Sean or Roger from aging or moving on, but when everything else remained the same from movie to movie, it minimized the change. In Reboot, the only thing that is the same, as far as I recall (and I may be mistaken,) is that Judi Dench is still M... and she has only been M since GoldenEye... and at the beginning of GoldenEye, Pierce is on a Cold War-era mission to sabotage a Soviet facility... yet since then, Judi has declared to Daniel Craig that he wasn't AROUND in the Cold War.
4.) Apart from the name James Bond, there's little else in common with the previous incarnations of Bond. He has a nice car and bangs blondes and brunettes.
Big-shit Hollywood knows that they can stampe 007 on any big-budget, special-effects, booby-packed film, and people will go see it. They'll rave about it. And you bought into it.
So there.
RIP
