Continuing the "finish SNES games" trend, I beat Donkey Kong Country yesterday. :)
I'd been stuck on area 4 (Gorilla Glacier)'s opening stretch -- a grueling struggle through five challenging levels without being able to leave or save -- for a long time, but after finally managing to struggle through it, the rest of the game came quickly. The next two areas didn't have nearly as far to go (three or four areas to the saving), and the bosses in DKC1 are absolutely PATHETIC... the only one in the game which was any challenge at all was King K. Rool, and while he took a little while, he wasn't that hard either. The later games are definitely better, in level variety, length, secrets, graphics, music, secrets and collectibles, challenge, bosses, and more... but even so, the first DKC is still a great game, and a real classic.
