Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 6th September 2007

man, you must be bored out of your skull.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 6th September 2007

Bah, making lists is fun... :)

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Great Rumbler - 6th September 2007

Between making lists and complaining about Fallout 3, ABF puts in a full day's work.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 6th September 2007

We should go visit him.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - EdenMaster - 6th September 2007

...Wow.

I wouldn't even know where to start compiling such a list.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 6th September 2007

Well, first of course you need a list of all the games you own... :)

And I know I'm missing plenty of things, particularly from the early '90s shareware/freeware stuff and from roms. I just went through my game collection lists/emulators/etc. and thought about which games I'd finished. When I thoguht I'd finished something but wasn't sure I marked that on the list. Not too hard, the hardest part is just remembering all the games... which is what the list of games I own helps with. And why the biggest holes are with games that wouldn't be on that list. :)

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 7th September 2007

The first game I ever beat was Duck Tales for the NES. Second was Mega Man. Those were so easy for me back then...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 7th September 2007

Heh, that's something I don't remember. I've thought about it before, but I have absolutely no idea what the first game I beat was... it's probably something not on this list (unless it was that Pac-Man LCD game). :)

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Great Rumbler - 7th September 2007

The first game I played was something on the Atari 5400. I don't remember which one though.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 7th September 2007

First game I ever played... yeah, I don't remember that one either. Oh well... :(

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - DMiller - 7th September 2007

I know for sure Donkey Kong was the first game I ever played. I'm pretty sure Super Mario Bros. is the first game I beat, but I played a lot of computer games before I got my NES so I may have beat one before SMB.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 2nd November 2007

I was looking through old boxes of mine from back when we lived in Europe, and I found like a thousand little extremely nerdy ABF-like bored out of my mind lists that I made. I should scan a few in and show you guys how bored I was.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 2nd November 2007

Go ahead. :)

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 5th November 2007

There are dozens of pages, seriously. One of them was about every single game I had ever played put into categories of who the game publisher was, and I gave each game a score based on my impressions and then averaged out a score for each publisher.

I WAS SO BORED

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 5th November 2007

I made plenty of lists and stuff, but I didn't do things like average scores by publisher... I'd probably need a calculator to do something like that. :) I just made lists and stuff, or invented game concepts or stuff like that...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - OB1 - 5th November 2007

I even made lists about scores from EGM, listed the scores, and then rated my reaction to the scores.

I was going to send them to a friend.

...

yeah.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 5th November 2007

I did spend time for a few years drawing level maps for games I thought up, though. :) 5th-6th grade or so, I think... I've actually got that stuff in a small folder file holder that I've got here in my room here. :D

I didn't actually finish games very often, and given that I'd generally have one side of a piece of paper per level, they were often pretty small levels...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - OB1 - 5th November 2007

I also drew an elaborate and fancy cheats list for Earthworm Jim 2 and Vectorman 2, both of which I hoped to get for my Genesis but never did. I recreated all of the logos pretty well, took a little while.

Oh geez.

You know what else I did? I made tons of little N64 boxarts of games I wish would get made or that I wanted, like Metroid 64 or Castlevania.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 5th November 2007

I couldn't draw well then any better than I ever have been able to, so I never tried stuff like that... my attempts at drawing in those games were... somewhat minimal. If I had a scanner I'd think about scanning in a few pages... :)

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 9th November 2007

I just finished Sonic 3D Blast. It's a pretty good game... the only downsides really are a few frustrating jumps (when they require you to land on specifc, narrow platforms) and that fact that it's really way too long a game for there to be no saving... that stuff was tolerable on the NES, kind of, but the Genesis has way too many of them. There's no excuse for a big game like this, released in 1996, to not have saving... and even less of one for the PC and Saturn versions to not have it either! The game takes several hours to play through, assuming you don't run out of continues and get game over... I only got six of the chaos emeralds so I didn't fight the real final boss, but I don't exactly want to go play it again right now. There is a stage select code, but saving is always better. Oh well... It definitely has amazing graphics for the Genesis, both in the game and the special stages, and pretty good gameplay too... outside of landing on narrow platforms, the isometric controls work quite well.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 14th January 2008

Why not?

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 17th January 2008

It's the worst iteration of a kind of average fighting series?

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 17th January 2008

Worst? I don't know... it's actually a pure 2d fighter gameplay-wise; it doesn't even have a '3d move' button. This makes it quite different from the rest of the series... I didn't expect anything from it, but actually find it kind of fun.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 18th January 2008

It's definitely the worst in the series.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 18th January 2008

I've also played DOA2 (it's on the list in this thread) and DOA3 a bit, though that was a while ago... I don't know if DOA1 is significantly worse than either of them, really.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 18th January 2008

I do. Know it.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 18th January 2008

Why do you dislike it so much? It's a perfectly decent game... it's as good as Tekken 3 anyway, for sure.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 18th January 2008

Tekken 3 is much better.

It's not a terrible game, but it's definitely the worst in the series. I don't think any DOA fan would disagree with that, aside from the especially horny ones.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 19th January 2008

Bah, Tekken, DOA, and Soul Calibur are all really annoying for having rounds that finish in seconds... 5-10 seconds for the average round, in any of those games? Ridiculous. 2d Capcom or SNK fighting games last longer and are much more strategic... when single, standard hits or throws do more than 50% damage you know something is wrong, and all of those serieses do that kind of stuff.

I think Tekken is the worst at that, though, which is why I don't like that series much... though the only Tekken game I've played is Tekken 3, so that's what I'm judging it by.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 22nd January 2008

Haha, they last seconds because people beat you so quickly.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 22nd January 2008

Rolleyes

None of those games are particularly difficult. Tekken 3 is pretty pathetic difficulty-wise, actually... I mean, if you can beat the arcade version of the game in one play (no continues needed) with minimal practice, and it's a FIGHTING game...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 22nd January 2008

difficult?

Oh you only play against the computer...

what's the point?

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 22nd January 2008

What do you mean? Of course fighting games should be challenging... sure SNK and Capcom sometimes went overboard with their bosses, but even so, that's better than it being too easy. You won't get any better at the game if the computer doesn't challenge you, or you don't have to use any additional skill to win. See: Tekken 3, where I'm sure there is some depth somewhere, but you sure don't need to use it to do well...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 23rd January 2008

Challenge comes from playing against good people...

Fighting games as a solo experience are kind of lame.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 23rd January 2008

That is true, there is a huge difference between playing fighting games against other people and against AIs. No question. Even so, I do play them in single player (too), and I want to be challenged... TOO hard isn't good either, but too easy sure isn't good.

DOA1... it's kind of in between. It's not as easy as Tekken, but it's not actually hard either. You can get through the arcade mode in about 10 minutes... try to do THAT in any SNK for Capcom fighting game easily! Really, both serieses are horribly unbalanced damage-wise. Why do normal hits do like 30-40% damage, throws over 50-60%, etc? It's stupid...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2008

SNES
--
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Awesome, awesome game... best graphics on the SNES, too. I came back from break and found the cart blank (it erased itself during break, and just after I'd started playing it again too -- I'd gotten to the fourth world), so I started over, and think that my SNES has been on for a week and a half now. I was probably being paranoid, because when a cart erases itself like that sometimes you can just create a new file and play and it won't erase itself again soon (For instance, I lost files on DKC2 and DKC3, then started the games over... and now a year or year and a half later both of those files are still there.), but I didn't want to take any chances. :)

you're so weird

Brian's review of Tennis:

"Though easier to play by yourself than baseball, tennis is still a pretty easy game to finish. Just volleying against the wall, while providing with some quick fun, grew tiresome after about ten minutes."

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 24th January 2008

What the heck? Why insult single-player modes of fighting games so much? It's not exactly weird to want to play them in single player too...

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 24th January 2008

Actually it is.

It's like someone buying Unreal Tournament for the single player only.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 5th February 2008

Well, I finished unlocking all the costumes in DOA1 today. :)

Took quite a while to get all the other costumes so that I could unlock Ayane, but it was worth it... she's the best character in the game, I'd say.

*Reads about the DOA Ultimate version of DOA1* What the heck? Saturn port? Why? The PSX version has so much more stuff... two more characters (Ayane and Bass), six more costumes per female character and one or two more costumes per male character (except the boss) to give 14 characters per female character and 5 per male one (except the boss who as 3)... etc... so why did they port the inferior version of the game for the "Ultimate" collection?

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - OB1 - 5th February 2008

you just wanted to see bouncing boobs, didn't you

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - A Black Falcon - 8th February 2008

I got everything in Tekken 3, Soul Calibur II (erm, yeah, that series has as much fanservice as DOA... moving on... :D), Evil Zone, etc... and have spent more time playing Capcom vs SNK 2 (GC) than probably any other fighting game, overall.

But anyway... yes, DOA has a lot of fanservice. The costumes, the numbers of costumes per character (that ensures that you spend like 80% of the time in the single player game with the female characters), the breast bounce option... but Soul Calibur is just as bad, really. In both cases the fanservice is at stupid levels, but the games behind that are pretty good...

As for the breast bounce option, in the first game, it's either on or off -- so there's either absolutely no bouncing at all, or an insane amount that looks totally ridiculous. It's kind of silly either way, really... though the costume designs probably provide even more fanservice than the bouncing.

Games I Have Finished (as far as I can remember) - Bo Jackson - 8th February 2008

SC isn't nearly as bad.

Okay the new one yeah, but DOA is just sad.
