hahaha! exactly. Graphics are important obviously but even the Final Fantasy creator says he doesn't own an HDTV and thinks the Wii's graphics capabilities are fine where they are. The unfortunate mess though is that instead of seeing graphics that are "2.5" that of Resident Evil 4; alot of companies use the excuse of 'comparitively low horsepower' to spend less R&D on graphics for Wii Games, even though we could easily see games above and beyond RE4, and even Zelda TP is still a GC game. I guess Nintendo is just holding back for the sake of incremental improvements (like they usually do) though I remember hearing someone from Nintendo say that was a mistake in the past.
The new Wii is mentioned by several reports, most noted by Perrin in several interviews. The TiVo like interface comes from Nintendo talking about upgrading the amount of flash memory and asking people in polls 'How much TV do you watch? 1 - 2 hours, 3 - 4 hours etc". So imagine turning on Wii, you see the obligatory Opera Channel, News Channel, Weather Channel, Everybody Votes Channel and VC Channnel as well as a Movie Channel you can select for playing movie DVD's and downloading clips and trailers of upcoming DVD releases (maybe even d/l entire movies or order them to be sent to your house) a Music Channel that would offer some kind of light show, maybe an on-screen equalizer with presets and the option to rip a CD track to Wii's memory as an MP3 to play during certain games (like in Excitetruck) and last a TV Channel that when selected lets you use your Wiimote as a universal TV remote to change volume, channels, picture settings, etc as well as record your favorite TV shows (maybe enough memory to record two 30 minute programs?), and maye have an integrated guide to see what's on categorically.
If Nintendo really went the extra mile, you could have things like on the TV and Movie channels, special highlighted words and phrases (actor names, movie titles etc) that would instantly take you to IMDB to find out more about it. I can imagine watching 24 on Wii and when I choose to record it, I get a 24 Channel on the Wii's desktop that when opened gives me info about the show, links to IMDB and descriptions of the episode - hell, maybe it'll link me to message boards for 24 discussion or *gasp* show me a list of other Wiitards who have downloaded this episode of 24 that I can NOT message because I need their friend code! :D
I'm srsly hoping that if PS3 Home hits, Nintendo will step up and utterly destroy the friend code system or atleast allow me to send messages similar to IM like 'lazyfatbum wants to add you! Yes - No' Hey, then you can have MiiSpace pages! oh shit that's a good idea! You get the invite and to see if you want to add this person you click on their name and see their page with their Mii's, hobbies, favorite games.... you could even have a gauge of some kind that displays how much you're trusted sort of like Ebay. if you treated people bad or acted retarded they can block you and add a bad point to your gauge oh shit I bet that's what Nintendo is going to do.
