What should Nintendo call it's next system? The Wii2 just won't do against something like a PS4. I'd go with Nintendo Go, I like the sound of it, but it's not trademarkable as much, I mean I don't think "Go" would be a trademarkable word. Maybe eGo, but e is so mid 1990's. i's are all the rage now, but it'll be faded in a few years (not to mention I have no idea what the "i" stands for in something like an iPod, internet? No, iPods don't surf the web, they play MUSIC). How about vGo? Nah, sounds like a 1950's sci fi plot device... uGo? PERFECT! Because it's, u, YOU! You have teh powers, feel EMPOWERED you slaves of our marketting hype!

The matrix you have plug ins surgically implanted into your brain and allow you to connect in your mind to a artificial world that is as real to the touch and smell as the real one.

I'm sure in some cultures that could be considered a coherent thought, but what I'm seeing is simultaneously a sentence fragment and a run-on sentence.

If it's matrix head drills or not, what should they CALL it?

It'll be called "Twii". And history will repeat itself.

Your badly drawn comic isn't as funny as mine...

<img src="http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/hyphen.jpg">

Except that randomly the comic gets all lovey dovey for no good reason, like Megatokyo.

Ya know, that sort of behavior never did make sense...

What's wrong with the N6? It's descriptive! Okay, it's not as good a name as "N5" was, for some reason, but still...

... I don't know what they should call it. But, given that they're calling the current thing the "Wii" (no, the jokes will never completely go away), they could call it absolutely anything...

I think the next system will only have a disc slot for playing GC and Wii games while the new medium will be completely downloaded. A Wii that uses the internet to download its games? You guessed it: iWii

It would also be cute to see a VR kind of setup, a 'self-contained' gaming system simply called U. It carries the theme of using letters that look like the peripherals as well, a U shape can easily resemble a headset, but I doubt Nintendo will go that direction.

The most likely scenario is that Wii gets updated and updated and updated. Dont forget that a new Wii is already on the way that's supposed to have DVD and music CD playback, as well as a rumored TiVo like interface, and you can bet it'll keep the same name. It might get a monocher like pokemon though, the stripped down Wii is just Wii, the Wii with movie and music playback is the Silver Wii or the Wii Entertain, Wii Party System, etc and the one with both the above plus the TiVo features could be Gold Wii (hahahaha) diamond Wii, Wii Plus, Wii Entertainment System etc etc. Actually "Wii +" would be catchy.

But I think Wii will carry on for quite some time.

DANCES DANCES DANCES DANCES

Did they really unveil a new system with those features? This is perfect... I haven't bought a Wii yet (too poor), but if they release a new version, they'll drop the price on the old. And by the time I buy one, I'll be making decent money, so maybe I'll get the newer version anyway.

Man, I'm so psyched to get one, even though it'll be months. I played it at a friend's house, and while I was a little disappointed by Tennis and lukewarm on golf, Boxing looks awesome (can someone post impressions of that?). I can't wait until a Mario Tennis game is released. I played Mario Tennis 64 this past weekend, and it was like falling in love all over again. If I weren't so bogged down by school, I'd be playing right now. I've heard nothing but great things about Zelda and have taken careful preparation not to spoil myself on all but the basic parts of its storyline.

Hmmm, I kind of like it, but it seems a little cliched. There has to be at least 5 other franchises that have used that scheme.

Hopefully, but I think they should upgrade the graphics and medium in a generation. I definitely like their lack of focus on graphics, though. I think it's only made the system more appealing and I even get a little disgusted when I hear graphics whores calling the Wii a GameCube2 while all having collective emotional orgasms (endorphins to put your finest dope at bay running wild (fucking firefox spell checking sucks, "endorphin" is so a word, google told me!)) over graphics that aren't even completely photorealistic yet about some cookie cutter army action game that's been done 10000 times before.

5 years from now - lazyfatbum - 21st March 2007

hahaha! exactly. Graphics are important obviously but even the Final Fantasy creator says he doesn't own an HDTV and thinks the Wii's graphics capabilities are fine where they are. The unfortunate mess though is that instead of seeing graphics that are "2.5" that of Resident Evil 4; alot of companies use the excuse of 'comparitively low horsepower' to spend less R&D on graphics for Wii Games, even though we could easily see games above and beyond RE4, and even Zelda TP is still a GC game. I guess Nintendo is just holding back for the sake of incremental improvements (like they usually do) though I remember hearing someone from Nintendo say that was a mistake in the past.

The new Wii is mentioned by several reports, most noted by Perrin in several interviews. The TiVo like interface comes from Nintendo talking about upgrading the amount of flash memory and asking people in polls 'How much TV do you watch? 1 - 2 hours, 3 - 4 hours etc". So imagine turning on Wii, you see the obligatory Opera Channel, News Channel, Weather Channel, Everybody Votes Channel and VC Channnel as well as a Movie Channel you can select for playing movie DVD's and downloading clips and trailers of upcoming DVD releases (maybe even d/l entire movies or order them to be sent to your house) a Music Channel that would offer some kind of light show, maybe an on-screen equalizer with presets and the option to rip a CD track to Wii's memory as an MP3 to play during certain games (like in Excitetruck) and last a TV Channel that when selected lets you use your Wiimote as a universal TV remote to change volume, channels, picture settings, etc as well as record your favorite TV shows (maybe enough memory to record two 30 minute programs?), and maye have an integrated guide to see what's on categorically.

If Nintendo really went the extra mile, you could have things like on the TV and Movie channels, special highlighted words and phrases (actor names, movie titles etc) that would instantly take you to IMDB to find out more about it. I can imagine watching 24 on Wii and when I choose to record it, I get a 24 Channel on the Wii's desktop that when opened gives me info about the show, links to IMDB and descriptions of the episode - hell, maybe it'll link me to message boards for 24 discussion or *gasp* show me a list of other Wiitards who have downloaded this episode of 24 that I can NOT message because I need their friend code! :D

I'm srsly hoping that if PS3 Home hits, Nintendo will step up and utterly destroy the friend code system or atleast allow me to send messages similar to IM like 'lazyfatbum wants to add you! Yes - No' Hey, then you can have MiiSpace pages! oh shit that's a good idea! You get the invite and to see if you want to add this person you click on their name and see their page with their Mii's, hobbies, favorite games.... you could even have a gauge of some kind that displays how much you're trusted sort of like Ebay. if you treated people bad or acted retarded they can block you and add a bad point to your gauge oh shit I bet that's what Nintendo is going to do.
