Not if you play the speed challenge in FF9 :D. You may already be aware of this, but the Excalibur 2 sword, strongest weapon in the game, can be unlocked if you manage to get to near the last screen in the game within about 12 hours. There will be an examine point that vanishes if the timer passes that designated time. Examine it and you get that sword.
However, you can bet you need to sacrifice a very large number of other side quests to get there (or at least put them off, but sacrificing will play a part). Also, you'll need to skip FMVs to really shave off some time, and consider skipping save points, and levelling up isn't exactly your "bag" in this mode, stick with stocking up on potions whenever possible and just equipping whatever is presented to you on the main quest.
