I'll tell you exactly why people hate the prequels:
1) Every idiot thinks they're a movie critic now, and when they see a movie that does not conform to their misguided standards, the "norm" that they are used to (i.e. most trash that people like nowadays), they reject it and call it crap.
2) The prequels don't feel just like the OT--they have a great feeling of their own. People hate change, especially when it's not necessarily an improvement, but rather just a change.
3) Too much hype, coupled with #1 & 2.
