Right. The game is very good, except that it has absolutely no staying power. A five-day rental will show me all I want to see. I paid full price for GTA3 and that was a terrible mistake.
GTA is a good rental. Unfortunately, by my standards, that doesn't really make a game good. It's got the foundation to be incredible, but it is a buggy game, and the real meat of the game, the missions, are very poorly-thought out and repetitive. And some of them are almost insanely impossible.
Still, it's nice to fire up the game and just tour the cities. As far as exploration, detail, and definitely the sound, GTA has it going on. I just wish that there were something to do after I've driven around.
GTA2 is still my favorite, even though reviewers consider it the worst in the series. I never played GTA1, but 2 actually has fun missions AND you don't have to do a single one of them to proceed.
