I didn't mean to make you sound ignorant, it's just that not everyone who you may come across will have all of the facts. :)
My family and I almost moved to China in 1994, actually, but we opted to move to Croatia where my mother is from. I have a lot of friends in China, and I'm well acquainted with what religious teachers can and cannot do there.
I don't know anyone who's been to Morocco, but if you know people who've been there I would talk in great depth about what you should be careful of on your visit. The first thing I'd suggest--and I suggest this if you're going to any country in that region--is to try to mask your American identity. You have to be very careful about this, as we are especially hated in that part of the world. If people ask, say that you're Canadian, no matter how embarrasing that may be ( :p ), and don't bring anything with you (other than the obvious things such as a passport) that will make you stand out as a U.S. citizen.
