Yeah, who knows what the Padres will do. Peter Gammons has been saying for about 3 or 4 years that the Padres have been developing young pitchers who could turn out like the A's, but it hasn't happened yet. They should be better than last year when Hoffman and Nevin both missed almost the entire season. And they have added some good players (Brian Giles, Ramon Hernandez, David Wells, Akinori Otsuka, Jay Payton) and addressed most of their weakest spots. Sure, they aren't superstars like the WMD buildup going on in NY and Boston, but they are good players who will improve the team.
I'm not sold on Wells yet, but hopefully the young pitchers like Lawrence, Eaton and Peavey will do what theya re supposed to. Maybe Sterling Hitchcock will return to his old self now that he's a Padre again. I've always liked him, especially when he outdueled Randy Johnson in the 98 NL Division series. And Rey Ordonez! It's almost like Ozzie Smith has returned home! Almost.
And who can forget about Sean Burroughs. He's gonna be my first pick in the fantasy league. :D
