Best game you ever saw there-The Heritage Classic, without a shadow of a doubt, has been the best game I have ever seen in ANY stadium. But seeing as how this is a football stadium, the best football game I've ever seen there is Edmonton Eskimos vs. Calgary Stampeders, last year, on Labour Day weekend. Dang, the Eskimos kicked ass, like they always do.

Best game-Um, I've only been to one. About a month and a half ago. But I was luckey enough (along with the rest of my hockey team) to score BOX seats, in the most perfect location to watch the game (PLUS the Flames lost, against the extremely horrible Blackhawks). These boxes cost a couple of hundred thousand dollars a year to own; good thing we've got a rich kid on our team

Best Game-STILL only been to one! But it was an awesome game, great crowd, and it was against the Florida Marlins. I caught a baseball at the game, that was probably my biggest highlight of the night.

The Kingdome in Seattle (now a parking lot) Fittisize posted the pic already. I've seen the Mariner's play the Blue Jays and the Padres. Both times the Mariners won, against my hopes.

I've seen the Padres play the Braves (when the Pads lost) and the Chargers play the Seahawks (which the Chargers lost). In the Charger-Chicken game, it was Mike Riley's last game coaching the Bolts and also my only football game.

Coors Field in Denver. Been there a whole lot of times, and I think once or twice the team I wanted to win did. Yay.

I don't remember being here, but my dad swears he took me to a Chargers-49ers game when I was like 3 months old. It was a pre-season game and they both scored like 45 points. The highlight of my night was staring at all the bugs in the stadium lights.

This is the stadium for the Rockies' AAA team. It's kinda funny now, all that green grass you see in the background is houses now.

This is where the Colorado College Tigers play, and I think there is some minor hockey team called the GoldKings that used to play here. I don't know if they still do.

I posted 2 because the first is better picture, but I wanted the one with the Spokane Chiefs hat to say "NYAH!" to Fittisize. :) This is an awesome little arena and is full of fond memories. Except for the sporting events. Those were lame. I saw the Chiefs play here once, and all they did the whole game was fight. It was really boring, and made my parents think hockey was a bad sport. A very bad representation of the game. However, I also watched numerous concerts there, including the BEST CONCERT EVER: dc Talk's "Welcome to the Freakshow" on Mother's Day 1996 (May 13, I think). Toby called his mom on his cell and had everyone yell things at her answering machine. It was cool. It also was the venue for the 2nd best concert ever, the Newsboys "Take Me To You Leader" tour (around November 7 1996) and my first concert ever, Michael W. Smith "I'll Lead You Home" in March of 1996. A good year for concerts, certainly.

I tried to find some pictures of where I played baseball and football growing up, but was not successfull. Um, I guess that's all the real stadiums I can think of. There are plenty more little places like the Spokane Arena, but I don't want to search anymore.

Fenway Park (twice), Candlestick Park (once, in '90 or so), Hadlock Field (AA Portland Sea Dogs' baseball stadium... been there at least 10 times... okay so it's not huge (6,500 seats maybe?), but it counts. :))... oh and I have been up the CN Tower above SkyDome but not in it and similarly up the tower connected to Olympic Stadium (and walked by part of it outside), but not in the stadium itsself.

It's Tier 1 Junior Hockey, what'd you expect? :) All the aspiring NHL'ers have gotta show the scouts up in the stand that they're tough!
One stadium I forgot (bah, why can't you call 'em Stadiums, DLN?) The Centrium, in Red Deer. I've seen about 10,000 Rebels games there. They play in the same league as the Spokane Chiefs.

The Rebels play a rough game, that's for sure...but I don't see fights there all too often.
And, what the hell, I'll add Telus Field, where the AAA Baseball Edmonton Trappers play (they're real good, too, and fun to watch)...
(I can't find any decent pics of it...but it's been touted as one of the nicer fields in the Pacific Coast League)

If the trappers are really that good why were the Expos the only team to take them as a farm team, and that was only because the Expos and Trappers happened to be the only two teams that didn't have a major leage/farm team agreement

Well, as early as last year the Trappers were the farm team for the Minnesota Twins. And on American radio shows (I get 'em up here) I heard many sports, um, guys say that one of the reasons that the Twins are so succesful is because they have the best farm system in the Major Leagues. But they never did say that that team was from Edmonton, not even once.

And I'm not entirely sure about when, but I do know that the Trappers have won 2...or 3....or 4? PCL championships, the last one only being a few years ago.

The Richmond Coliseum. An ugly place in an ugly part of town that hosts local college basketball teams and the Richmond Riverdogs hockey team. It is best known around here for a terribly funny mishap. Back when the Riverdogs were the Renegades, they played a game on a Friday. The venue replaced the hardwood for a VCU basketball game the next night, but they forgot to do it properly, so when it was game time on Saturday night, the hardwood had a thick sheen of condensation from the ice beneath the floor that was so bad the players could not play and the game had to be canceled. That put the place in very dire financial straits for a long time because a lot of big contracts were revoked.

Oh, by it is another (smaller) dome-ship like building, with the olympic swimming pool in it I think and (I think in the other part of it) this ... um, arboreum? With plants and stuff from all over. We went there as well as up the tower.

Putting a roof on ANY stadium is stupid. Those guys get paid fifty-thousand times what I do just to play games, it wouldn't kill them to play those games in pissy weather.

Hockey is the one obvious exception. But since that game is pretty violent, they can get away with being under a roof. There is no reason football games should be played in a dome, and don't get me started on that sissy sport that cancels games when it friggin' rains.

The roof on Olympic Stadium is supposed to be retractable...it had to domed for the Olympic games in Montreal. BUT, it broke down so now you can't open and close the roof in the Big O. It just stays closed.

I dunno if it's the light or what in that photo, but the thing is actually a deep, doo-doo brown color. It's also smaller than it appears to be. It seats slightly less than 12,000.

Baseball cancels when it rains because you cannot play baseball well at all in the rain. Football is different... bigger ball, bigger targets, etc... but baseball? It's a game of precision. You have to be able to hit the ball, and catch the ball, to be able to play. And you don't want to be slipping and falling every time you run in the wet grass or sliding on the wet muddy infield... no, baseball and inclement weather do not mix at all. You' should know that if you've ever played it or watched much... :)

And not all domes are for rain I think... I mean how often does it rain in Phoenix? :)

Have you ever watched a rainy football game? They're messy, sloppy, and even though quarterbacks make bad passes, recievers drop easy balls, and tails fumble more, they're sometimes pretty fun to watch. You can't play football well in rain (try it sometime if you don't believe me), but it can be played, and so can (and should) baseball.

Baseball can't be played. That's the difference. Between the higher injury or mistake chance (turning quickly and running on wet grass... you will fall...), the presence of dirt as well as grass (gets muddy and harder to run in), the small size of the ball that could easily be hard to see in the rain, how it's much harder to hit in rain... sure football must have issues too but if baseball could play in (heavy; they play in light rain) rain they would. It's just a game that needs good or at least decent weather to be fair to both sides... remember things like how the shadows from the stadium in evening, and white stadium roofs, are also a major issue since you can very easily lose the ball in them...

This isnt Junior league or anything, This is a bunch of guys playing hockey for fun "once a week"and there is no coach to make someone stay off the ice.What I know is that he plays untill he is pooped of energy and full of swet and of course will have to sit back on that frozen bench.

Who wants to have to bring splash pants because your seat is soaken wet and frozen like a ice cube.

It is nearly impossible to play baseball in the rain. ABF pretty much explained why. Football is difficult in the rain, but still possible to play. I played baseball until high school, and the few times I've tried playing with some friends in the rain we found out just how impossible it was to play.

Having lefties in your lineup is overrated. We had a lefty last year (Shawn Estes) and he sucked. I'd much rather have a good righty in Maddux than a bad lefty. The reason teams want lefties in their lineups is for a change of pace. Maddux provides a change of pace as he is a finesse pitcher in a lineup of power pitchers.

As for the dugouts, it's so they don't have to sit out in the hot sun for every game of a 162 game season. Other sports don't have to go through that many games a year and even though baseball isn't as strenous as other sports playing that many games of anything can get to you if you aren't careful.

Yeah yeah I know....just I was reminded of when I was going to a soccer game last year and it was raining, and there was a baseball game going on next to the soccer field, and everybody was packing on up and going home 'cause of the rain. The dugouts were useless! (but uh...I guess some soccer fields have shelters or dugouts for the subs. At the new fields in my town we got some dugouts at the soccer fields)

As he said it's more for sun, and because baseball plays twice as many games as any other sport, and many times more than other outdoor sports (not sure how many games in a soccer season... is it more than football? If so not my huge amounts -- still a small fraction of a baseball season...). Oh, and tradition -- there have been dugouts for a long time so there are dugouts. :)

Oh, and you make up rained out games (that don't get through 5 innings), and with the 162 game schedule you have the time to do so --sure there are more games but you are used to playing more so moving a few games wouldn't matter nearly as much as in other sports... and it's just impossible to play, which is the main reason. :)

While I agree that it is very difficult to play baseball in the rain, I would not say that it has to do with the danger of hurting yourself in the wet grass. Sure, that is a possibility, but you run and cut MUCH more in football than baseball. How often does a fielder change directions? Usually, only when the ball is hit. Then everybody runs in a straight line to where they are supposed to be. If the ball bounces off something, yeah you must change direction, but that is a rare event. It does become very difficult to hit a ball or field a grounder if the field is wet, and everybody knows that most baseball players are as far from athletes as you can get. It's changing, but you can still be fat and lazy and make millions in baseball.

Since ABF brought up Phoenix, I forgot that I watched the D-Backs play the Doggers in BOB once.

My dad, brother and I were driving through Phoenix on the way back from San Diego, and we decided to catch a baseball game. It was Randy Johnson vs. Kevin Brown, and I have never seen two great pitchers like that. So what happened? Brown blew up his arm after about an inning and a half, and Johnson gave up around 8 runs in 4 innings.

I've been to hundreds of baseball games so of course I've caught a few foul balls. The only one I still have is one from the White Sox game I went to last summer. All of the others were from my younger days and I probably just ended up using those balls playing baseball.

It didn't have a dome on top of it when they built it, the dome was added years later.

And yes LL injury probably is less of a factor for why they don't play but there are plenty of others.

Home Uniform, Road Uniform, and Alternate Home

The visitor and alternate hats are very cool. Dark blue with a sandy brown SD logo. I'm driving out to SD on Friday so I will be looking for a new hat and cheap Chargers stuff (like a powder blue LaDainian Tomlinson jersey). And the Charger stuff better be cheap, since they are the worst team in the league and they could move to LA at a moments notice.
