Oh, late '80s? I was thinking it was '90s... there is some clear continuity though, between that stuff and the later mid '90s "Play It Loud" campaign -- that was kind of like an amped-up, slightly older-audience version of earlier advertising like that.

And yeah, that (Atari 5200) Pole Position ad is pretty amazing.

etoven Wrote:Notice how little they show the game. HaHa.. The game is nothing like that. That ad clearly wins the award for most untrue BS insinuated about a product. It was kind of fun though. :)
Eh, ads are like that -- most videogame ads show very little of the actual game, in fact. They showed a few seconds of 5200 Pole Position in that ad, which is more than you'll find of gameplay footage in some videogame ads...

Rad Racer was better anyway :colbert:

90s ads are weird. I'm reminded of the Calvin and Hobbes strip where he complains that television commercials are just a weird barrage of loosely related images. I didn't remember it being that bad :psyduck: but I guess I wasn't the most observant child. Or adult for that matter.

I've never been a big Rad Racer fan... it's probably better than the first Pole Position, I guess, but I'd honestly rather play Pole Position II for the 7800 than Rad Racer...

    Also, ads!
    MK1's is a classic.

Mario 3's ad has zero gameplay shown. Great ad for sure though!

And of course the Japanese LttP commercial is kind of crazy... crazy bad, that is. Dancing rap, Zelda ad? Yeah. (Also no gameplay, but that's okay.)

Finally, here's that N64 video I was talking about. Yeah, I still have my VHS copy.
