From what I've heard *but can't confirm* , The queen has one thing hypothetically that can be argued as a reason for keeping the status quo in the short run, Namely the possible costs and ramifications abolishing the monarchy would create, Such as making every piece of legislation and every international treaty made with the crown become void,The native Americans in Canada for instance would lose their legal standing as self-governed entities and also other special rights afforded to them under the First Nation act ( Part of which predates confederation ). If the UK abolished the monarchy not only would they need to re-found their country so would every nation connected in personal union to the crown.
The queen and her throne is what keeps my country politically married to the UK, Which may sound bad but we in fact benefit from the UK being forced by their own laws to legally back us in international disputes like the "Turbot War" with the EU , A rather bizarre event that most us never knew happened. * Anglo-sphere victory over euro-trash fishing trollers*
My idea , Is too not eliminate the monarchy but modernize it into an elective monarchy, which surprisingly has a history in England during the early Anglo-Saxon Kings and arguably "Oliver Cromwells" protectorate. Essentially the sovereign of our beloved commonwealth is elected and not chosen by birthing order, Which would essentially make it a defacto presidency only with more pomp and pageantry.
