A Black Falcon Wrote:1024x768 is still a normal resolution, but yes, I would agree that it's on the low end of normal these days, and widescreen resolutions (and monitors) are quite common.
On the note of wallpapers, though, I currently have two monitors attached to my computer (hey, the computer has two video out ports, and I had another monitor lying around, so I hooked it up a few months ago... :)). I wish that in Vista I could put different wallpapers on each monitor, it's kind of lame that I've got to just set one wallpaper which is on both displays.
Oh yeah, and the colors on my main monitor, the circa 2001 Dell 17" CRT, are vastly superior to the other one, a mid '00s 17" Dell LCD. That's why I use the CRT as my main monitor, in addition to that it supports higher referesh rates and more resolutions. But the difference in color quality is really very noticeable... I wonder if newer LCDs are any better at this?
I can tell you from experience that modern LCD displays and now LED displays have vastly superior contrast ratios then their distant cousins. Plus their really afordable now. You can get a decant 23" for around $200.
