I think the next system will only have a disc slot for playing GC and Wii games while the new medium will be completely downloaded. A Wii that uses the internet to download its games? You guessed it: iWii
It would also be cute to see a VR kind of setup, a 'self-contained' gaming system simply called U. It carries the theme of using letters that look like the peripherals as well, a U shape can easily resemble a headset, but I doubt Nintendo will go that direction.
The most likely scenario is that Wii gets updated and updated and updated. Dont forget that a new Wii is already on the way that's supposed to have DVD and music CD playback, as well as a rumored TiVo like interface, and you can bet it'll keep the same name. It might get a monocher like pokemon though, the stripped down Wii is just Wii, the Wii with movie and music playback is the Silver Wii or the Wii Entertain, Wii Party System, etc and the one with both the above plus the TiVo features could be Gold Wii (hahahaha) diamond Wii, Wii Plus, Wii Entertainment System etc etc. Actually "Wii +" would be catchy.
But I think Wii will carry on for quite some time.
