When I've had my system repaired, my Gamecube, they knew exactly when and where I bought the thing through the serial number.

Walmart doesn't participate in serial number tracking for the XBOX360 (at least at my store), only on DS's, PS2, GBA SP, and GC, I'm not sure why. At any rate the numbers have to be off.
