As I said that's how I saw it at the time, but I can see how you could see it your way. That was my point.
Oh, please stop saying "and the rest of us" since there are many here who were fully aware I was joking. My comment was aimed only at you since you were the one who started the whole weird accusation. A couple other people just agreed with you (and ABF is a sheep anyway so he doesn't count :D).
I'm attempting to meet you half way here and end this whole thing, since this whole issue doesn't really exist and is just a misunderstanding between us.

I actually think it's pretty obvious when DJ is joking..
4th September 2003, 8:25 AM
Well both OB1 and I have a very hard time telling when he is joking while we are in a debate of some kind...
Like here. It looked to me like DJ's comments about Speed were serious... were they not supposed to be? If they weren't, I sure couldn't tell at all.

Careful ABF, you might be accused of being an egomaniac if you think that DJ is being joking about being serious when she's joking.
4th September 2003, 12:04 PM
So...should we just assume that everything DJ posts is a joke unless otherwise stated in bold words such as "Hey, I'm being serious and not kidding in the slightest!"? Or should we consider that to be a joke too?
4th September 2003, 12:53 PM
See, DJ? GR is also confused by this sometimes.
4th September 2003, 2:33 PM
Yeah, but he's not accusing me of anything like you are :D. Generally no explanation is needed when I'm joking, it's USUALLY understood. It's those occasions when I'm apparently too subtle for a few people here that caused this strange conflict. I personally thought it was pretty much obvious I was joking, though as of late you may have noticed such confusion hasn't occured because I'm making more of an effort to be more blatently joking. As far as I'm concerned this so called issue IS resolved.
And again, it's not you not getting the joke, it was you accusing me of lying after not getting the joke that made me think "ego".

That's because GR is spineless. :D
Only kidding, Johnny.
I wouldn't be as harsh as you call you a liar, but I did think that you were using the joke card to escape from certain semi-arguments.

4th September 2003, 3:37 PM
Yeah, I took it too personally, as I said above. Stupid human emotions... Anyway, I consider such a thing as saying I meant something different than what I did to be lying, so that's why I took it that way. In any case, that's not the case.
Well, situation fully resolved. Just kidding! *gets thrown out of the arena by Link*

4th September 2003, 5:58 PM
Resolved? We still know that you will continue to 'joke' in situations where you don't seem to be... I wouldn't go so far as to accuse you of lying, but I would definitely say that you assume far too much about our ability to deduce when you are joking, and have done that for a long time... effectively making it easy for you to use that as a escape valve from any debate you see coming, thus avoiding those silly 'debate' things that you hate so much?
4th September 2003, 10:25 PM
Well it's resolved with OB1, but apparently ABF has some beef to pick with me. Let it be ABF, and for the last time, I love debates, just not the arguments we get into where no logic is ever used.
5th September 2003, 8:21 AM
Oh, like you'd know if there are facts involved, given how you don't stick around long enough to see most of the time...
5th September 2003, 10:29 AM
Indeed. I'd like to see just one debate with Ms. Pretentious where she uses her self-proclaimed wonderful, logic-filled debating skills.
5th September 2003, 11:17 AM
Sorry, we aren't good enough for that...
15th September 2003, 2:55 PM
...riiiiight.
So, anyways, I finally got around to renting F-Zero GX. It's a fun and awesome game, but I'm glad I didn't spend 50 bucks to buy it yet. Nahh, instead, I let stupid Blockbuster rip me off. $6.42 for *one* game for 5 days?! What a friggin' gyp... I hate Blockbuster. Before they pushed the mom & pop owned "Double Feature" video store out of business, video game rentals were only like 3 bucks!
Anyways, I'll probably wait until this game drops to $30-$40 before actually buying it. It's an awesome game, though... very fast-paced and challenging.

You can get it for $42 at Sam's. Probably less at Costco.
15th September 2003, 3:07 PM
Never heard someone DISS Blockbuster before. For me they have just got better and better, and in fact rental stores are the ONLY places that get better and better. When I was a kid, rentals were for 3 days (including day rented) and new releases were for two days (including day rented), and it was worse at the non-chain rental stores, which all SUCKED because they NEVER had what I wanted, were more expensive, and at times everything in the store was 2 day only. Plus, they were ugly :D.
On the other hand, Blockbuster has maintained their prices and have increased the rental days to 5 days a week, which is something that just wasn't done back in the olden days. No, Blockbuster, if anything, made things MUCH better. However, YOUR local chain might have had better deals. Well, I say if making a chain I'll never go to go out of business is the price to pay for making the ones I have been to realize they SUCK and having a decent rental outlet, then so be it!

I saw it for $40 at Hastings.
15th September 2003, 3:21 PM
Blockbuster's late fees are insane. There are a few family-owned video stores in my town that offer a far greater selection and much better prices than Blockbuster, so I don't go there very often.
15th September 2003, 5:31 PM
Blockbuster sucks. They have almost no new anime and they charge prices that are way to high, even for old stuff. Hastings is way better, they only charge $3.78 for new releases and $2 for DVDs that are several years old.
15th September 2003, 6:58 PM
Never seen a hastings around here. They have decent rent times?
As far as late fees, I suppose that would get annoying. I myself just make sure to return everything on time.

15th September 2003, 7:11 PM
Blockbuster also has a habit of losing their own videos/games and then trying to force the customers to pay for them. I once rented the crappy Phantom Menace game for the PSX and returned it (with witnesses to prove that I did), and the stupid Blockbuster people claimed that I lost it. A similar thing happened to my sister and there are actually many lawsuits against Blockbuster by people who've gone through the same thing.
15th September 2003, 7:19 PM
I've fortunatly never had that happen to me. However, I imagine such a thing would happen all the time, and not just at Blockbuster. I do believe it's some lazy employee's fault, and not really any store policy, not that it makes any real difference.
15th September 2003, 7:23 PM
It seems to happen much more often with Blockbuster than any other video store.
15th September 2003, 8:42 PM
We don't have Blockbuster here, just Movie Gallery... they aren't very good.
15th September 2003, 11:16 PM
Really? So, how many days they let you rent stuff, how's the price, and how's the selection? From what you say, I would guess at least one of those qualities suck.
And yes, when it comes to the pocket culture movies, Blockbuster doesn't really have much to offer. However, I have yet to see any rental stores that DO offer that around here. I guess that's what "local" means eh? I would enjoy seeing a decent rental store with a huge anime section at least once. Generally, all of them, Blockbuster included, have this small section of anime that is 3 or more years old, contains a large amount of very bad anime (to put it VERY lightly), and of course has non-anime mixed in like MTV cartoons and such.

There's a family-owned video store near the University over here that's actually bigger than any of the local Blockbusters or Hollywood videos, and it has a great selection of anime and foreign flicks. Great rental prices, too.
16th September 2003, 1:27 PM
Ah, that's nice to know. Wish I had a place like that around here. See, the only small businesses chains drive out are the ones that are worse than the chains, and who wants to support those?
16th September 2003, 1:34 PM
Sucks to live in Oklahoma, eh?
16th September 2003, 2:04 PM
Luckily I live near Texas and more importantly the metroplex, which is good source of places to buy cool things.
16th September 2003, 2:39 PM
You should come over to Colorado one of these days so that we can play games and watch cool movies and stuff. Then we could drive down to Colorado Springs and try to get LL into games again.
16th September 2003, 2:50 PM
Tell you what, in the next several years if I have money to spare and a few days when everyone else is gone I'll drop by your house. :)
16th September 2003, 2:52 PM
Hey, maybe I'll be in Texas working for Retro by then. :D
16th September 2003, 2:59 PM
What if we both got jobs at Retro?! Wouldn't that be cool?!
16th September 2003, 3:00 PM
Yeah, you could be my assistant!
16th September 2003, 3:13 PM
Mmmmm...no.
16th September 2003, 3:54 PM
There is a locally-owned DVD rental place in town, and its okay... much, much better than Movie Gallery for sure... but for VHS and game rentals Movie Gallery is it. Though they do have a decent selection, its not great... neither has a huge selection of anime, either, of course... oh well. The local place's is a bit better, probably, though...
As for price... I don't know, pretty standard for chains... though I've rented a fair amount (from their bad selection of N64 and then Cube games) and never had a 'we lost it so you pay to replace the thing' issue... the problem generally is that they very infrequently get new games...

Okay okay, you can be my personal intern.
17th September 2003, 2:31 PM
Hmm...let me think about that for a..NO!
17th September 2003, 2:58 PM
Ok ok.... how about if we join forces and take over the company?
17th September 2003, 4:56 PM
Alright!
17th September 2003, 5:10 PM
Then I make you my secretary...
17th September 2003, 6:19 PM
When I get an intern, I'm going to convince whoever it is to "Quick, climb into the jeffry's tubes to disable the reactor before it fries us all" just so the intern will get stuck in the ventilation ducts and I can have people pay me 5 bucks to "spank the intern". Just like in a Dilbert comic :D.
17th September 2003, 6:23 PM
You have some really... odd... fantasies.
17th September 2003, 6:32 PM
Fantasy nothin', this is just a get rich quick scheme. Interns are the group everyone loves to take advantage of, and they never know!
