I watched the MS conference on G4. They really go to commercial at the worst times possible.
Brawl on December 3rd CONFIRMED!!!!
Mario Kart Wii ONLINE!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!
Galaxy on NOVERMBER 12TH 2007!!!!!!!!!!! *explodes*
awesome, Mario the bee
Mario Bee is AWESOME.
The conferences are the only thing about E3 that matters at all... :(

... we didn't have a countdown thread, any anticipation threads, any discussions or anything on MSN, nothing... and for good reason. There's no reason to bother when E3 is this irrelevant.
The most important news from E3 (Nintendo-wise)... Fire Emblem Wii has a US release date, finally. :)

Quote: NINTENDO REVEALS INCOMPARABLE BREADTH OF UPCOMING GAMES FOR WII

Classic Franchises, Amazing Games and Cool Accessories Keep Wii on Top

SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 11, 2007 – Consumers take note: Cancel your vacations, postpone your weddings and skip your class reunions. New games for the record-selling Wii™ video game system continue to set new industry standards for fun and adventure, even as they draw new players into the ever-expanding world of Wii. Nintendo announced these new offerings for Wii today during its media briefing at the E3 Media & Business Summit in Santa Monica, Calif.

"In less than eight months Wii has proved itself the video game system for everyone, and we're not letting up," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "We're producing hit after hit after hit, supported by a long line of third-party publishers who have shifted their resources to help make Wii the most distinctive video game system in history."

Counting downloadable Virtual Console™ titles, Wii already boasts more than 150 games. By the end of the year, that number will climb to about 350 in the United States alone. Just check out what Wii has to offer:

Wii Fit™: The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports™ now spreads to your whole body thanks to the pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board (name not final), which comes packed with Wii Fit. The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities provide a "core" workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

Mario Kart® Wii (name not final): The new version of Mario Kart, due in early 2008, features new vehicles and lets players near and far compete using Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's wireless gaming service. Mario Kart launches with the Wii Wheel™ (name not final), a steering wheel housing for the Wii Remote™ that brings new controls and challenges for veteran gamers, while making getting into a race easy and intuitive for newcomers.

Super Mario Galaxy™: The latest masterpiece by legendary video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto puts a smile on the face of everyone who plays it. Until now, no game has matched the sheer fun and sense of delightful awe produced by the groundbreaking Super Mario® 64. Using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk™, players navigate iconic hero Mario™ through a series of planets, each with its own gravity, chaotic challenges and power-ups. The game bursts through the screen in vivid artistic detail, and a second player can even provide some assistance along the way. It blasts off Nov. 12.

Super Smash Bros.® Brawl: Nintendo's all-out smash-or-be-smashed franchise remains one of the most highly anticipated games of the year. Its predecessor became the No. 1 selling game of all time on Nintendo's previous console. Super Smash Bros. Brawl ups the ante with new characters, new moves and new arenas. The game smashes into North American stores Dec. 3.

Wii Zapper™ (name not final): This new accessory combines the accuracy of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in a single housing for a new experience for first-person shooters and targeting games. Players can hear the sounds of battle through the Wii Remote speaker when it is incorporated into the Wii Zapper. It arrives on store shelves later this year, packaged with Nintendo-developed software that shows off its versatility. The Wii Zapper also will be used with a host of third-party games, including Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles from Capcom, Ghost Squad from Sega and Medal of Honor from Electronic Arts.

Check Mii Out Channel (name not final): Launching in 2007, this free new channel builds on the huge phenomenon of Wii owners creating fun caricatures of themselves, their friends and celebrities. The two main components of the free channel include an area where users can post Miis they have created to let others vote on their artistic abilities, and a competition element that lets users test their skills to create the most accurate likeness of individuals or other themes suggested by Nintendo. The Check Mii Out Channel joins the lineup of cool channels on the Wii Menu, which includes the Internet Channel, the Everybody Votes Channel and the Forecast Channel, among others.

Metroid® Prime 3: Corruption: This final chapter of the Metroid Prime trilogy introduces unmatched first-person controls by letting players use the Wii Remote as an arm cannon for a feeling of complete immersion. Heroine Samus travels between planets to stop her nemesis, Dark Samus, from corrupting them. All the while Samus fights the spreading Phazon that is taking over her body while giving her incredible powers. It launches Aug. 27.

More to Come: Other Nintendo titles launching this year for Wii include Mario Strikers™ Charged (July 30), Donkey Kong® Barrel Blast (Oct. 8), Battalion Wars™ 2 (Oct. 29), Endless Ocean™ (Oct. 29) and Fire Emblem™ (Nov. 5).

Third-Party Support: Third-party publishers are racing to see who can put the most resources behind Wii. By the end of the year, about 100 new Wii games will hit stores. EA brings Boogie and EA Playground, as well as online action for its Madden NFL and FIFA Soccer franchises; Mario and Sonic team up for the first time ever in Sega's Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games; Sega shows off dreamy aerial acrobatics with NiGHTS Journey of Dreams; Activision jams with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock; Namco Bandai puts the battle blade into players' hands with SoulCalibur Legends; Disney Interactive belts out High School Musical: Sing It!; Square Enix brings Dragon Quest Swords in early 2008 – and that's just a taste of what's to come.

Also, Advance Wars DS 2 is coming, at least according to Nintendo Europe... no sign of a US release for the Tingle DS game though, though it's scheduled for Europe as we've known for a while.

I didn't manage to watch the MS or Nintendo conferences (forgot about when they were) but because it was just on I saw the end of the Sony one. New Killzone 2 trailer to end it... oh joy. More bald-ish space marines, just what we needed! I was getting pretty bored just watching the trailer... Sucker Punch's game (Infamous, I think?) sounded interesting, though.
About 100 new Wii games by the end of the year? Nice, sounds like Nintendo is getting better support. I don't care much for the Guitar Hero games, but it's nice that the craze will be brought to a Nintendo platform.

I'm surprised that we haven't heard more about Metroid Prime 3's controls, seeing as how it's coming out next month. I believe I heard somewhere that the controls were reportedly awesome - can anyone back this up? I wish we had some specifics. I'm not sure how I feel about being able to travel between planets. Metroid's always been about claustrophobic corridors on one planet, but it'll probably still be awesome.

What's the username and password for Nintendo.com again?

And why do we need a zapper and a wheel? They seem like useless add-ons. No matter, as long as the wiimote alone can still be used, I'll be satisfied.
Quote:What's the username and password for Nintendo.com again?

The same one that's worked for years now... username golin pw harris, a password so well known across the gaming internet by now that there's no way Nintendo doesn't know that a lot of people know it... I guess they just don't care, given that all it does is lets people download informational pdfs, game trailers, and screenshot packs of Nintendo games.
Mentioned here for instance http://www.tcforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2982 , though I think I first heard it from Nintendorks years back...

The "Upcoming Games for DS" and "Upcoming Games for Wii" PDFs are probably the most important files in the site...

Nintendo's lineup on those lists says a lot...

After the last two gens, it's finally good to be a Nintendo fan again!

The only problem is, I KNOW I won't be able to get all of them when they come out :(. Brawl is first and foremost, obviously. Beyond that, I might be able to swing one more and wait till Christmas for others.

I loves me some Fire Emblem. Depending on what I see going forward, that could be it. Mario Kart Wii will also be tough to pass up.

Damn yuo Nintendo! Nothing for <i>MONTHS</I> and you're going to dump it all on us in the span of two months!?
Yeah, I don't have a Wii now and won't anytime soon... as usual I'm making very little this summer... I guess I should be saving up so I can get one later this year, but at this point I just don't care yet for some reason... I've played some Wii (some people I know have the system of course), but... well, I do have a new PC and I just got my DS early this year and have a bunch of stuff for that, and the usual mountain of SNES/Genesis/SCD/PSX/Gamecube/N64 games I got used but haven't gotten around to really playing yet, and (as I have been for two years) once in a while I think of getting a PS2... the problem with the Wii is that as a new console its games are all going to be full price and expensive. I could have gotten one back in January but then I'd have like a half dozen games now instead of a lot more stuff like I've gotten...

... I'll get a Wii sometime for sure, but... hmm. Maybe at Christmastime? I DO want Fire Emblem, badly. A lot more than anything that's out now for the Wii, that's for sure...

On another note, I'll probably get Touch Detective 2 1/2 sometime after it came out. The first one was good. Advance Wars DS 2 is also an obvious must-buy...
I can't wait to play some online Mario Kart Wii. Booyah!!
Online Mario Kart and online Smash Bros. within a few months of each other is going to be too much for me to take. I can see my 360 losing a lot of play time later this year.
My entire life has been building up to online Smash Bros. Prepare to hear me constantly bugging you guys for a round or two :D.
I need some good competition because there is only one person here at camp who can consistently beat me and none of my friends play videogames much anymore. Although, if I use a character other than Ness I am pretty beatable.
Don't get your hopes up for online SSBB. They talked about their online games at E3 and it wasn't mentioned. Now, that doesn't mean it won't be announced later, but...
I thought they had announced it already, like 7 times.
They did. They wont go back on it now. Since its first announcement, it was even called SSB: Online, it's been referred to as 'Nintendo's first online game' before soccer was released. So no worries.... no.... worries...

*worries*
Yeah... Sometimes features get removed...
They're not talking about online for smash, so this worries me.
If it's not confirmed in the next month or two, it won't be confirmed at all.
If Brawl isn't online I will tear out the hearts of those responsible and cry as they slump to the ground.
That's probably not good for either one of you.
DMiller Wrote:If Brawl isn't online I will tear out the hearts of those responsible and cry as they slump to the ground.

After you do, I will stomp the hearts, if you don't mind.
And I will pee on them!

And do a little elvish dance afterwards on the ripped, stomped, and pissed hearts. With plastic booties, of course. I don't wanna get piss on my shoes.
The latest EGM has a small preview of Brawl, and it does say it's online.

*grasps tightly to latest straw*
That seems like a lot of work. How about instead of going through all the effort of killing them, you just dig into a bucket of ice cream and watch Ernest In Something.
I know that you're on Xbox Live, DJ! I can see you!!

Play Carcassonne with me, darnit!!
Dark Jaguar Wrote:That seems like a lot of work. How about instead of going through all the effort of killing them, you just dig into a bucket of ice cream and watch Ernest In Something.

Ernest Goes to Camp was the best.

(Oh, here we go with a topic change)
EdenMaster Wrote:The latest EGM has a small preview of Brawl, and it does say it's online.

They said something about the promise of online play. If you listen to their podcast from last night they're just as uncertain about online smash as we are.

:(
I predicted the "SSBB won't be online because Nintendo hates online gaming" thing a long time ago, and it looks more likely than ever now.... though that really should be a bad thing, shouldn't it... :(
Mario Kart Wii is online though...
True... maybe after putting MK online on the DS they thought that they had to? I don't know... they had to put SOMETHING online so they could pretend that their online policy isn't as totally incompetent as it is and they stuck with Mario Kart?

Hopefully both games will be online, but we'll see...
I mean honestly, with Nintendo saying things like this, how can anyone say Nintendo is actually interested in doing decent online play...

Quote:Forbes.com: Why is it taking so long for Nintendo to make its online game-play system as strong as Sony's or Microsoft's? People want to play Wii Sports with friends and strangers across the world.

George Harrison: People's ideas of playing online hinges on existing gamers. It means playing Halo in a massively multi-player way. The online experience doesn't have to be as narrow as that. If what you want is an aggressive game you can play online with your friends, maybe the Wii isn't the best fit for that. In our attitude there are a lot more people in our new expanded audience than there are traditional gamers. We think there's a social aspect in real life, in your living room for Wii sports. That said, we do have online games coming.
From http://www.forbes.com/technology/2007/07...tendo.html via http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.p...arrison%22

Nintendo's position against online gaming is very, very clear. And very, very stupid.
Great Rumbler Wrote:I know that you're on Xbox Live, DJ! I can see you!!

I sometimes just leave my 360 on for hours at a time in the menu. That's probably what you saw.

I haven't bought Carcassonne, and I'm not sure I want to. I downloaded the demo but I haven't really played it to see if I want it.

I did play some Shadowrun and the Blue Dragon demo though. The latter is now a game I KNOW I want.
Well they've already stated that MK Wii will be online. That we do know. If they're doing it there, why wouldn't they in SSBB?

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope">ABF, I really think you need to read this. It might be good for you in the long run.</a>
"Hope" has to be warrented. Blind hope in the face of contradictory or lacking evidence is worse than no hope at all.
Lacking evidence like...Pokemon Battle Revolution, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Strikers Charged, Battalion Wars II, and Endless Ocean being online?
No those HAVE evidence.
Dark Jaguar Wrote:"Hope" has to be warrented. Blind hope in the face of contradictory or lacking evidence is worse than no hope at all.

O RLY?

Quote:Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life. Hope implies a certain amount of perseverance — i.e., believing that a positive outcome is possible <b>even when there is some evidence to the contrary</b>.
Dark Jaguar Wrote:No those HAVE evidence.

Yeah, that's the point.

I was speaking more to ABF, despite responding to your post.
EdenMaster Wrote:O RLY?

That sort of "hope" is foolishness.
Quote:Lacking evidence like...Pokemon Battle Revolution, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Strikers Charged, Battalion Wars II, and Endless Ocean being online?

Did you read that quote of George Harrison's?

Even if there is online, they aren't going to have it be a system any gamer who likes online gaming would really care about. So really, either way it doesn't matter...

Quote:ABF, I really think you need to read this. It might be good for you in the long run.

:D

Sorry, but I'm a natural pessimist... :)
In direct opposition to my above statement, I consider myself an optimist. I just don't get carried away with it.
Quote:Even if there is online, they aren't going to have it be a system any gamer who likes online gaming would really care about. So really, either way it doesn't matter...

I care about it and, to me, it does matter. If SSBB isn't online it's only because they couldn't get it implented properly, for whatever reason. Not because they have some hatred and distrust of online gaming. Look at the list I posted. There's five games published by Nintendo that have online gaming. You think that they'd have online in those games and not their flagship multiplayer title if they could get it?
