The multiplayer shooter is so "blah" I forgot it even existed. Just like the same mode in Banjo Tooie, it exists but doesn't help the game.
Oh, and I think you oversell the "using unique abilities" thing when it comes to backtracking. Most of the time, the kongs are just walking around the levels to get from one challenge to the next. The specific kong abilities you actually need to get certain things are still put to the test if you can just switch right there. There's a better argument to be made for that with Mumbo's transformations in BK and BT, where navigating as a bee or whatever really does completely alter how you approach a level. Sorry, but I don't feel the same way as you do about character switching.
