Windows Store "PC" Games are Terrible Broken Junk

... No exe file? No modding? No way to use overlays, controller remapping programs, etc? Vsync always on? And for me worst of all, borderless fullscreen ONLY?? I have two monitors, that's like the worst idea ever. If you stick to this, MS, I won't be buying and I hope other people don't fall for this either. As much as I like Microsoft's operating systems, they make terrible decisions sometimes with things like Games for Windows Live, and this, hopefully, will be the latest such debacle.

PC games as a closed system with no modding, etc, etc, would be terrible compared to what we have now! This sounds like exactly the kind of PC gaming-destroying, corporate-pushed system that would be disastrous for this industry if it takes off on computers, so it can't be allowed to. That's all really bad stuff. And on top of that, borderless fullscreen only is like the worst idea ever for computer games, for performance, for people with multiple videocards and/or multiple monitors, etc.

So yeah, here's hoping this is the next Games for Windows Live in terms of success. I like some things about Microsoft, such as their operating systems, but they cannot be allowed to destroy the open format system that makes PC gaming great.

Microsoft is hoping that many of its upcoming first-party PC ports of Xbox One games, including Quantum Break, Killer Instinct (the new one), and Gears of War (remaster), Windows Store-exclusive, will get people to buy in. I hope that things do not go well for them on that, PC gaming as an open platform must continue. It is promising that GFWL failed and the first reaction here is similar, but... what is MS thinking? After the debacle that was GFWL, how could they think that trying something similar but even MORE restrictive would actually work?

Don't forget that Solitaire is ad-supported unless you buy it. Kidding! You can't BUY Solitaire, you can't OWN property man, you have to pay a yearly subscription for Solitaire! The old Windows 7 version doesn't even allow itself to RUN on newer versions of Windows. I had to find a hack to let me play the version I already own!

This is the sort of thing that makes me shudder when Microsoft says it is positioning Windows "as a service". It's almost enough to make me want to switch to some version of Linux. Well, "almost", since the vast majority of my games won't work on Linux.

Yeah, the new versions of Solitaire, Minesweeper, etc. with microtransations added are pretty sad things to see. I'm sure it works out financially for Microsoft, but those are supposed to come free with Windows! Windows itself is not cheap, if you buy it new anyway...

If MS ever made Windows a closed ecosystem where you could only play games that went through MS approval, as it is on all mobile platforms, yeah, even I would have to look into switching over to Linux. I have used Linux before but prefer Windows' nicer interface, compatibility, and of course vast games library, but a locked-down Windows would not be a real PC operating system, and something would need to replace that... so Linux it'd be. But here's hoping that this effort goes badly for Microsoft. It needs to to keep computers open. It is encouraging that they immediately got some strong pushback for this, and it will continue I am sure.
