That's a fair criticism, but when is the last time a major game actually HAD LAN play? It seems like a feature that was common in the '90s but has since been removed in favor of networks that the publisher controls. And yes, you are entirely right that that's horrible for future-proofing, but with how connected many modern games are in terms of online features, levelling systems, DLC and microtransactions, etc., etc. I agree that the PC version of a game like this should have kept LAN play in, but once publishers realized that they COULD lock everyone into their walled gardens and not allow anything else they did and they definitely aren't looking back.
