HGST was bought by Western Digital primarily for their manufacturing process, which WD has left intact. At the moment, a HGST branded drive is still being made by that same manufacturing process in the same factories, and they are showing the same reliability.
Since SSDs are based on a totally different tech, the best company for those is probably not going to be the same. Maybe Samsung or Intel?
