What, you mean to tell me that this car engine won't take any possible fuel? I'm shocked!

Commercials often lie right to your face these days. It's not new that they are deceptive, though their brazenness is rather recent.

If this Lexus engine is designed to operate with x efficiency per stroke, as opposed to an engine of equal size, weight and power which averages y efficiency per stroke, given that both engines will be fundamentally similar (in that they operate via combustion from a given set of liquid fuel sources), would not the efficiency of the Lexus engine, by dint of its design, be 'optimized' for any fuel which could theoretically ignite within an internal combustion engine compared to other, similar but presumably less-efficient, models of internal combustion engine, assuming both ran on the same fuel source? Especially when compared with a non-hybrid?

It would make Lexus' claim technically true, but only as a thought exercise. In practical exercise, it's specious at best.

The FCC's censorship branch should start focusing more on going after dishonest advertising and less on curse words.

You'll need to have the "what about the children groups" on board for that to happen..

The advertisers can dodge any number of lawsuits against misleading ads by putting tiny barely readable text at the bottom of the screen ,this way they can wiggle themselves out of court by arguing that they put notices that somehow negates their liability for the baloney despite the fact it would take hawk-eyes to decipher it.
