Unless it's near Tulsa, then this is basically just one of those "over there" things I can't go to.

GDC is the Game Developer's Conference, not really 'public access'... it's just very cool that it's happening, since he evidently doesn't do this very often at all.

Unlike Nobue who actually has a rock band.

Yeah, Koji Kondo definitely doesn't do anything like that, that's for sure...

Here's hoping for some pirated mp3s. Why, oh why doesn't Nintendo / Koji Kondo take advantage of this and make it a public event?

The American market for videogame soundtracks/concerts is smaller than the Japanese one for some reason... game companies don't usually even release soundtracks here (of games that did have them released in Japan), much less do concerts. :(

I never noticed that enemies react to the music in New SMB. I played through the game pretty quick so I'm going to have to play it again. Definitely worth the read.

There's talk about how, since today's game machines are as powerful as they are, going back to midi instead of full orchastration, due in no small part to the sort of dynamic music Koji was talking about. The idea is that today's machines could do midi as good as professional synth machines.

It's the sort of thing that results in the dynamic music changing you hear in something like Banjo.

High-quality MIDI? That could work... music that reacts to the onscreen action is better for a lot of kinds of games, really, even if it takes more work to get right, so yes, I'd love to see that... I like videogame music, though. Liscenced soundtracks work in some cases (I didn't mind it in SSX3 -- though did that have somewhat reactive music?), but something designed just for the game, which responds to what is happening, is best. But then, as I said, I like game soundtrack music... :)
