As the thread title points out, these are not major deal breaking issues, so I don't want to hear anyone saying "well it's not that big a deal" or "it's still a great system" or anything like that because that's understood.

Anyway, I just thought I'd point out the minor issues I've noticed here and there while browsing the otherwise great system.

One thing I just found out, by testing Mario Kart DD, is that the Wii doesn't properly handle LAN mode. The thing is, the Wii should be able to do that using wireless just fine without issue in the background and just "trick" the game into thinking the LAN add-on is installed. This can be fixed in a future firmware update, if they so desire. Hopefully they will. It's a minor issue that goes right along with the very short list of Gamecube games not running correctly on the Wii (also fixable through an update).

This is really a Gamecube annoyance, but in attempting to "move" previously unmovable Gamecube saves to my large memory card, I find I still can't do that. Rather silly really. What's the big security risk in not letting me move my Animal Crossing town data or F-Zero data around? They can still prevent "copying" after all, and if someone hacks the system to allow a copy it's not like they can't just also allow a move with the same hack, so it really doesn't prevent anything. This too should be resolvable in a future update, but for some reason I doubt this will ever be implemented. It's just weird.

As my other thread discusses, the Wii strap could use some work. I haven't had the thing slip from my hands yet, and I'm pretty shocked at the speed those videos show of those remotes flying all over the place. However, that tiny string is still pretty weak. Really, what is up with that? Japanese people are weird.

Nintendo's online store needs to ditch "Nintendo Points" in favor of actually listing the price and letting people just buy the things there. As I've said before, unless you have enough points left over from previous purchases (which requires you actually having a lot of things on there you want to buy, instead of, as is more likely in my case, maybe one or two things every year if XBox Live is any indication), basically any and all prices under $10 become exactly $10 for all practical purposes.

The "channel" interface is interesting, but it could be streamlined even further if instead of each and every single app you downloading getting it's own icon in a big ol' list right up there, it was categorized. That is, all the Virtual Console games could get their own folder. Further, it would eliminate the need for all those pages of dead space on the top level.

The last thing is something that's not an issue just yet, rechargeable remote batteries. Those would sure be nice. Two metal contacts on the outside and a stand to sit it in, like a portable phone? Even better.

Anyway, that's all I can think of right now. Nothing major, but little problems that can all be resolved through either firmware updates or a special new accessory to buy.

Here's another one. The system has two USB ports, so it would be nice if I could use my keyboard to type instead of using the remote (which while great, still can't match a keyboard for typing). I tried, it doesn't work.

And another interface thing is that sometimes I just want to play a Gamecube game but I have to pick up my remote and point at that option. It would be nice if the remote wasn't the one way to navigate the Wii menu. A classic direction pad style navigation would be great for quick sessions with old games where you don't want to muss with other controllers.

These two issues also can be resolved in a future update.

Well it's not like you don't already have both of those games.

In other news, what ever happened to Blizzard's "Ghost" game? I want more psychic commandos!

Well, hopefully it won't end up like this:

    How appropriate, considering the name.

    Not on the Wii!

Probably nearly finished and good enough to get decent but not great scores, but we'll never see it. Like Warcraft Adventures.

Didn't Warcraft Adventures just get turned into WOW, or am I thinking of something else?

Warcraft Adventures was a point-and-click adventure game.

Was it a comedy? Because that art style is typical "teh funny" art style.

I'm sure there were comedic parts, as most/all good adventure games do have them, but it had a serious story too...

It was about Thrall. The story became the book "Lord of the Clans", I think -- it's the story of Thrall's rise to power from the camps and stuff. Looked cool in PC Gamer... nice artwork, etc... but it wasn't a AAA title, just maybe a B-grade game, and there were some production difficulties, so it was eventually cancelled. :(

Kinda reminds me of Monkey Island.

Is that Orc's name Mancomb Seepgood?

    Some legitmate Wii annoyances...

    http://wii.ign.com/articles/748/748526p1.html

In other news, I was able to use a Wii a bit yesterday. Played a game of WiiSports Tennis (I lost, hadn't quite figured out the controls yet...) and then three races in ExciteTruck (lost the first one, though we played Canada's Platinum course and the other guy (who also hadn't played before) didn't finish either; but I was behind both on the course and in points, so... well, I then won the other two, one despite finishing second (well ahead in points) and other by one point due to the first-place bonus. :)). Fun. The Wiimote is really small.

ExciteTruck is great! Simple, but great... I want to play it more...

WiiSports Tennis? Didn't play enough of it to say much, but it seems to be glorified Pong. Without the ability to move left and right. Decent introduction to how to use the controller though... Miis are a decent idea, but seriously lacking in variety... the best way to tell what one is supposed to be isn't the design but the name, pretty much...

(oh yeah, we had no sound because of some issues with the projector system we were on, but oh well.)

I agree with you about the Miis. I think a system update that would add to the functionality of them would be perfect. Maybe even allow for specialized outfits so you could make a true Link or Mario.

I'm envisioning Mii accessories as prizes. Like, if you beat Mario Galaxy, you can give your Mii's Mario caps, or by beating MP3, you get a Chozo Suit.

Improbable, I know, but it would be awesome.

I can't seem to find a way to turn the sound down on the remote. If I mute the TV the controller still makes sounds.

Press the home button pretty much anywhere and it should open a menu, on the bottom of which is the controller settings. The Wii-mote volume can be turned down or off from there.

Hit the menu button and you'll notice a bunch of options. The bar on the bottom is options for the remote.

    Read instruction booklets.

Oh right, we did have the remote sounds, if not the actual console's stuff... it doesn't do much in ExciteTruck.

... more likely, it's the perfect opening for microtransactions? (perfect for Nintendo making even MORE money, that is!)
